Rectal biopsy for CF??? Never heard of this

That's too bad that they only test for 100 genes....

It's extremely rare for someone to have PA in their sputum and not be extremely immuno-compromised or most likely, CF.

Is there any way you can get a more broad genetic test or does socialized medicine not allow that?

I hope you get an answer soon.....

Jeez... That's why they say "inconclusive", the only CF symptoms he has is cough caused by pseudomonas and the sweat test. He's well built, goes to the gym, ran a half marathon the other day... is in college... normal life. Pancreas and everything else is OK.

But I wonder, if he hasn't got any of the 99% prevalent mutations, and there were no cases of CF in the family... what terrible bad coincidence happened??? I feel guilty sometimes, tho I don't know of what...

I'll speak to the doctor about the baffling biopsy. I'll be sure to post about it!

Sakasuka, in reply to your post... I once asked if they could send samples for the Ambry test, and the doctor said they have to gather samples several people in the same situation as my son's, and send them all together otherwise it'll be extremely expensive.
Probably not many new cases arose, and we are still waiting...

Never heard of it. Even when my daughter had a rectal prolapse (we were in the process of getting her diagonsed) an expert and experienced pediatric rectal surgeon said that surgery was rearely required for rectal proplapse.

So in my mind this would translate to a resounding NO to the concept of a rectal biopsy.
