Red Man Syndrom

I had it after I gave birth and it was severe, lasting over 2 weeks beyond when the meds were stopped. I tried everything and ended up curing myself with 500 mg of ester vitamin C taken every few hours for one day. That can cause loose stools for some people but didn't cause issues for me.

As Jennifer said, I think all of the bases have been covered. I'm sorry you're having such a time with the RMS!

Are you doing IVs the old style way with the IV pole & pump or doing the balls or syringe pump? It would seem like the syringe or IV pole could be slowed down even more. I have not done the ball method, so not sure about that. I remember the RMS getting better as time went on & eventually, towards the end of the 2nd week, I didn't even need the Benedryl, so I hope this is the case with you. I hope it gets better!

Well, I sent a photo to my DR of all my blotches on my back he immediatly stopped all Vancomycin infusions and is sending me to an allergist. He said I have had a sever reaction to the Vancomycin. I will let you all know what I find out after my allergist appointment.

Hugs,

Okay I am seeing this a little late but just wanted to say I am glad that you sent a pic to your doc and they stopped Vanco. I had RMS when I would take this too and I was told by the doc if I developed any splotches/hives or anything rash like to stop it cause it was an allergy and not just RMS.

One thing I will put out there if you can't take Vanco Zyvox is amazing for treating MRSA. I alternated the two pre transplant when I would be hospitalized and the Zyvox always seemed to work more effectively.

I hope they get you on something that works for you ... minus the reactions.
