Religion and Illness. Where does your church stand?

Lauren, quite simply, this thread is ABOUT bad experiences. If you started one about good experiences, I'm sure you'd get plenty of responses. Though if you're going to do that, please relate it to CF, or put it in the religious section where it would otherwise belong.

As for me, I have certainly come across ignorant doctors and nurses. But the people in my clinic, I have had very little trouble with. More than 50% (probably closer to 75%) of the religious people I've come across have said something that I vehemently did not agree with (some of these things are good examples, though there is certainly plenty more).

I moved my thoughts to a different area on this site. This thread asks the question "where does your church stand." I described where my church stands and how that is relevant to religion and illness. I was keeping with the raised question of the forum topic. I just chose to go in a positive direction instead of dwell on the negative. I used to do that and found it to be counter-productive.

I'm disappointed to hear about so many bad experiences people have had. I believe these are the exception and not the rule.

I feel that people use "bad experiences" as a crutch or excuse. There is a church or body of people somewhere, who will love and support you in the way God intended. You just have to keep searching. These negative people and "their" view of religion are NOT what God intended for you.

I feel that if you are serious about a relationship with God, He will lead you to a church where you will feel welcome. And if you are not serious, God will still wait for you--as He did the prodigal son. And there is a party in heaven everytime someone turns and puts their hand in God's. And it's all a matter of choice...

Just FYI... I lend my bad experience as experiences were asked for. But not as any kind of crutch. I guarantee you, even if I found a church that accepted me, I would not want to go to one. I do not see that ever happening for me. It's not any kind of crutch or excuse (for me). I am simply not religious, end of story. That's all!
