HI-
I guess I came on this thread a little late.....
I just wanted to tell you I ride too. I do English. And the exercise is amazing! I have CF arthritis, so unfortunately I've had to cut back a little. Anything like that on my legs can be painful. But, I hope to be riding more when spring comes. Its eaasier in the warmth.
I have 2 Arabians, (the supermodels of the barn-brats), two Welsh ponies (who are really my little sister in law's), a buckskin mustang pony, a quarterhorse (who is there as our safe packer for people that visit and want to ride), and a big fat black mutt guy.
We live on a split farm with our inlaws on the other side of the property. So, all my inlaws kids (my brother and sisters in laws), take care of them and ride them. It's nice for me, b/c I can avoid the work in the barn when its cold out.
Anyway-I encourage riding to ANYONE with CF! It's great exercise, your lungs bounce up and down. My doc once told me that a half hour trot was equal to 4 or 5 clappings!
And also the emotional benefits it provides. The bond you get with the animal, listening to it as it moves, all that is so great for emotional health. Its like an antidepressant!
