Oh! And some people assuming that my CF isn't as bad as others because I'm "not like those other sick kids who need to be in the hospital all the time".

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote><i>Originally posted by: <b>krisgabes</b></i>  I've also gotten the "god bless you" and the "I just got over the same thing a week ago/I have bad allergies too" comment. lol I do the same, I just say thank you and move on too.</end quote></div>
Oh yes I just love that shocked look with a 'god bless you'. Well, just go ahead and call the morgue now. lol

"There are no guarantees in life!" But I use this one myself and the other cliches--makes me feel better myself <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My least favorite phrases said in condolences - especially in regards to people with CF or other lung issues are the following:

Breathe Easy and They aren't suffering anymore.
or things along those lines. The isn't suffering anymore really annoys me more than anything.

For me those make me feel like my life is one to be pitied, and I don't feel that way. I feel like my life has been wonderful, and I will be honest I will spirit slap anyone that says that when I pass against the back of their head. My life has been wonderful and even though yes I am now on the post transplant side of life - it has all been wonderful, sometimes hard but still wonderful.

The others whatever- I have stopped explaining that I didn't cough when I cough - I still cough on occasion now (post nasal drip) and I still get the bless yous. I just say thank you I figure I can't be too blessed. As for the are you sick or what not when I wear my mask, I simply say no I had a transplant and I am protecting myself from you ... people usually shut up lol. I have realized that most people's comments are well intended even though we find them ignorant. I take most opportunities to educate and make them realize things are not always as they appear. It may or may not make a difference.

I hate when people say " you do not look sick". This absolutely drives me crazy. I especially hear this at the pharmacy when up my several bags of medication.

Hey Scott,
Welcome to CF.com  ..  I guess my least favorite , mostly because they should know better, is when a health Dr/Nurse says something pertaining to CF that isnt correct !  Like "were you born with CF" Oy !!
& I always get the "but you look so good" which kinda bugs me but then I think well at least I "look good" lol
As for some of the other phrases that have been mentioned I am guilty of saying some of them as well..  Please dont hate me lol
 Take care  <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">  joni

What a post to start off your membership here <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Love it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I was diagnosed with CF at 4 months (I'm now 28).
CF camps, CF forums, etc - those things never really appealed to me.

A friend of mine was actually the one who sent me this site.
"It's interesting. Check it out," they said.
So I check in here from time to time.
Posts like yours are why I'm glad I checked in <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

As for phrases of condolences, overly used cliches, or otherwise strangeness have I run into?
Hmmmm........
"But you look so good!" (like BelEAche said)
"Oh, I know exactly what you're going through...I had asthma when I was 8 for like 3 months!"
"Oh! When's the baby due?" (stupid overly happy stranger pointing out my distended tummy)
"So I'll bet you won't ever get married cuz guys don't want to deal with taking care of a sick girl."
"Jeez, if you're sick - go home." (when coughing)
"Anorexic much? Eat something." (when I was little and underweight)
"So tell me, why do you think you don't deserve love?" (absurd question for idiotic social worker)
People screaming at me for using a handicapped placard.
People scared of me because I wear a protective mask in public places.

Hmmm, I think I may have gotten off your point...sorry <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
Anyway, have a great day and see you around the forum <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
