Ronald McDonald House

Hey Everyone! We have our next appointment with Paige's Dr. on the 10th. For those of you who don't know, we have to travel a little over 250 miles one way. I'm going up alone this time, just me and Paige, and since it's supposed to be snowing in our region, our Case worker booked us at the Ronald McDonald house. This will be our first time ever at a RMH house, and I was wondering, what can I expect? I reminded our Case Worker that Paige can't be around other sick people, nor can I, and she doesn't think it should be a problem. Our hospital has put protocols in place to try to prevent sick siblings, and people from visiting, and the RMH house won't let anyone sick stay there (they make reservations at hotels for them). I'm still kinda nervous about everything else though. Any suggestions on What not to forget, or What to take?

On the same note, does anyone ever feel "guilty" about taking help? The Children's Miracle Network, and RMH is all paid for by donations (with the exception of a small government grant), and I always feel like their services could go to someone more needy then us. Don't get me wrong, I'm not above asking for the help, or taking it, because we truly honestly do need it. This year has been very hard on us. However, like I said, I know there are families who are suffering more then us.

Anyways, as always thanks for any suggestions & advice!!

Hi I am new at this, my son was diagnosed 2 weeks ago today. In the past 2 weeks we have incurred costs that are so outrageous I can not even begin to describe. Ronald McDonald house is there for a reason and that is to help. You need to go someplace safe and if they are offering th help take it. It is one less thing for you to worry about. I have a group of Girl Scouts who have helped the RMH so on behalf of them take it. Put all of your good thoughts into getting a GREAT visit at the hospital! Please keep us posted on how she makes out.

Chelsea,
Hi! We have stayed at RMH a couple of times. They are wonderful! At ours, you get a room with a bed and bathroom. That is it. The tv is in what they call the 'family room', where anyone can sit in comfy sofas or chairs to watch tv. We never did that because we just slept, showered, and ate there. The rest of the time we were at the hospital. The food is free. They have washers and dryers. They normally have a kitchen that you can help yourself to anything in the pantry, cabinets, refrig., cook, microwave, whatever you want to do....their only request is that you clean up after yourself in the kitchen. We didn't do the 'playroom' due to germ control.
I hope you stay there, they are for people like us, we all donate to these causes, when I go through McDonalds, I donate to the RMH box....even if it's just my change.
Let us know!
Hugs,
