saveferris - vest question

Hi,

I know you have vest info on your blog. Am I reading correctly that Warwick recommends the Incourage system over the others? Was this published somewhere that I can share this info with my clinic?

My dr said she didn't know about the vest options and said the clinic's nurse could answer all my questions. The nurse didn't seem to know about the Incourage system, and made it sound that all vest systems are pretty much the same. She commented that no studies had been done comparing vests, and that any info I found that Incourage works better is probably just marketing literature.

I don't want to be forced into the new Hill-Rom if there are better options. I guess I'm just looking for some feedback and where I should go from here.

Thanks.

Milla CE, Hansen LG, Weber A, Warwick WJ. High-frequency chest compression: effect of the third generation compression waveform. Biomed Instrum Technol. 2004; 38:322-328.

In a study comparing the differences in output characteristics between triangle waveform and sine waveform HFCC machines, eight stable CF subjects treated with both modalities yielded a 20% mean increase in volumes of mucus cleared - with a range of improvement up to 41% - with the triangle waveform machine. Authors speculate that 1) the shape of the waveform delivered by HFCC machines is important in maximizing mucus clearance; 2) the triangle waveform may be more effective because peak airflow and maximum lung volumes occur at the same frequencies and; 3) the triangle waveform may be more comfortable as a result of the shorter duration of peak pressure and venting to atmospheric pressure.

You have the details as to which device has which waveform on my blog.

Other perks with the Respirtech vest include (to the best of my knowledge these are unique Respirtech features):

1. Custom Vest size (not just a standard S, M, L which doesn't help if your'e in between sizes)
2. Hoses that stay in place with a hook (not sure how to describe it but you can see it on Respirtech's site)
3. A "quick start" option which allows one button push to go from high to low frequencies without you having to do a thing. It's great for multitaskers who want to get other things done while doing the vest.
4. A pause every few minutes to remind you to cough, as recommended by Warwick

This study was sited in the Warwick section of my blog, BTW. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I know it's a ton of information, so you might have missed it
