Personally, I would send him to school. My son went to 2 yrs of preschool and kindergarten and now is in 1st grade. He is 6 yrs old. My son has had 12 surgeries, over 10 hospitalizations, on 12 daily med's, cultures pseudo, staph and cepecia (strain III), has a port, and G-tube so lets just say he doesn't have an easy time with is cf, but I believe in letting him be a kid. I really can't believe your doctor doesn't want him to go to school. Sure I worry everyday about the sick kid in class, but you do the best you can everyday and deal with everyday as they come. I don't believe in sheltering him, I believe it is better to let him live life, even if it has the risks. Everyone is different I know, but this is how I feel. Good luck with everything!

Send him to school!!! Not sure why doctor would tell someone not to go to school unless it was a case where their health was severe.

Kindergarten is such a great year of social development.

Let me say this my other boys do go to school and Nick has said he wants to go and then sometimes he says no.I know that I am very lucky to have a child with cf who is doing very well his lung function is at 100%No psuedo they have only found staph but simple antibiotics have treated this.Has not been hospitalized since he was diagnosed at 9mnths.Very Very thankful for this he did have gtube for about 2 years but has had it out for about 3 years growing well 25%for height and weight.I am a nurse myself and feel that although there are many things that I think contribute to his health I am afraid to change any of these something has worked scared to change any of this. The reality is he will get something eventually but want to continue to keep him as healthy as possible for however long I can.
I want to say this as im new to this board or any board for that matter. It is very nice to be able to talk to other people about things that very few people understand thank you for your replys and understanding.

I am curious to why he thinks he should not go to school. Is he really really sick or what is the doctors theory?

I have a 6 year old and he is hospitalized every year for the tune-ups. He has gone to two years of pre-school, kindergarten and is now in the First grade. He has played soccer and baseball. I think it is important for them to lead as normal life as possible. Let them be a kid. He has gone to birthday parties and different group activities.

Just like another post said they need to build up their immunities also. But it is your right to do whatever you want and if you think homeschooling is best than do that. But you also don't want the child to be behind hi or her peers when they do start attending school.

Good Luck to you and whatever you decide!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
