Day 11 update(or is it 12 I seem to have lost count...lol):

Went to doctor apt AT clinic 2 days ago, following advise on here I ommited my thoughts on CF and at least got myself a physical. Without mentioning the oditties with me and salt we are unsuprisingly back on Asthma treatment. This time I actually have more then just albuteral so day 2 being treated with arythromiacin, albuteral, and asmamanex (mometasone furoate) this is now my second mild asthma diagnosis though still without a single chest x-ray or real diagnostics...uh okay. Well anyway since most of you seem to be taking asthma meds anyway either way it probably can't hurt me.

I'm pursueing an interesting idea for med innsurance...I saw a sign at my local blockbuster for help wanted and I'm trying to get a second job just for benefits as in if the minimum amount for benefits is higher then say 15 hours a week I will work for benefits instead of pay or benfits and a little extra pay depending on the hours. Maybe I can start a trend in this country? Now the question is how many hours are fair? working 40 plus 30 hours a week would knock me on my ass so I have to manage part time benefits somehow.

1a would be nice but involves talking to my parents about this which could get quite odd. (My mother has started noticing how often I get colds and makes such *useful* suggestions as you need to clean your house more and it could be lyme disease, west nile, or bird flu. She is very worried about bird flu, media hype freak <sigh>. When I mention getting better Asthma meds she says, "I don't like to see you on medication". My father has at least acknowledged that I have resperatory weakness and am actually trying to take care of myself despite minimal official healthcare, however he really doesn't want to think about serious stuff I can tell) I will be calling Beth Sufian before pursueing any testing but yes I have to know for sure, if this comes up positve telling my folks is going to be odd.

If you are in the Chicagoland area Dr. Jain at Northwestern is good. Ok, I don't love him (more because our personalities don't mix and I am a big baby) but he is recommended by Children's hospital and has done a lot of CF research. He is at Northwestern just so you know

Day 11 update (the real day 11 I think?) : Still congested not like I was but still there. Throat still feels tight and and a bit sore. Nose much less congested, still have congestion in left lung/bronchi and still more then I started this cold with. Energy levels are back to almost normal though my reserves still feel quite depleted. Another cold or else an addtional round of the same cold is hitting the office and my officemate has it for the second time...doing everything I can to avoid going under again but rather nervous about it...the last thing I need is to relapse/catch a second strain. The vents still haven't been cleaned, wish they'd hurry up and do it. Today we see if my little "get insurance idea" has a chance of happening...cross your fingers.

Going back to doctor today, results of insurance plan still unknown. As far as my health, I still have a fair amount of congestion on the left side and it feels like it has settled in to stay. I'm still on meds but I don't seem to be bringing anything else up. For added fun we got stuck in a monster of a storm last night and almost lost the car...I'm grateful for small blessings.

I don't have anything valuable to say... Just thought I'd share a bah humbug with you!

It sounds like you would definitely benefit from seeing a pulmonologist. Someone had posted that many of the sliding scale places can make recommendations to a sliding scale pulmonologist -- this might really be helpful for you to try.

Unfortunately, a lot of the treatments (after getting seen) aren't cheap either, but hopefully a pulmo could come up with a few of the low dollar solutions. Albuterol nebs are quite cheap, so is exercise... An Acapella might help out.

I hope you come up with something you can do. I know that people have posted about public hospitals and state-backed insurance and maybe one of these will work out. Even if these come with some relatively stiff copays, if it saves you from permanent damage to your lungs, it might come at a low price.

Comes down to I really have no idea what you can do, but I hope you are able to figure something out.

How are you handling having the suspicion that you have a condition and not being able to test? I became convinced that I had some sort of scary aneurysm type condition in college and actually ended up in the emergency room just to reassure myself. It was just a swollen lymph node on the back of head, but once I got the idea in my head, I had to get reassurement even though I really didn't think i had it. Hope you're not going insane!
