Seasonal Flu Shots

I am getting differing information from three sources re: availability and when to get the seasonal flu shot for my daughter (age 5 w/cf)

Our regular CF Clinic tells me they are already giving the seasonal flu shot. I know from my experience with them that if we had an appt in October, we would be able to get it then.

Our new CF Clinic (we are transferring care and our first appt with them is in early Oct) tells me they already have a limited supply and recommend we get a flu shot elsewhere ASAP because they do not know if they will have any left by Oct. 13 when we will be there.

Our primary care doctor's office tells me they will not start giving seasonal flu shots until October 1, no exceptions. When I mentioned that drugstores around town are already advertising that they have them available, the response was that the drugstores should not be giving them out now.

I am thinking we should just get it now or within the next week or so. We are leaning toward getting the H1N1 vaccine as well and I would like to space the two out a bit.

What are others doing? When do you get your seasonal flu shot and are you finding any supply issues?

Thanks!

We usually don't get flu shots until end of October, beginning of November to hold us thru the flu season, yet make sure we're covered prior to Thanksgiving when there are usually a number of out of state guests.. However, this year we were told to get the flu shot as early as possible.

A friend of mine's children were all vaccinated two weeks ago, our family got ours this week. In fact the local flu shot clinic blitzes began this week. Usually they don't start for at least another month...

I've heard rumors that they may recommend getting another seasonal flu shot again in January to hold people thru the entire flu season. No sure what the rationale is behind the earlier seasonal flu shots.

I got my flu shot today at my husbands workplace. They only give them to the spouses and employees. I have been wondering when Austin will get his at the Cf clinic. He has his clinic visit tomorrow so we shall see.

I got my four year old her flu shot before she started school. Thought that was the best idea and her ped office made the exception to do it early since she had CF. They are not doing their shot clinic til the end of the month. Feels good knowing she has that already when she is around all the kids at school for the first time. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I wonder, does it wear off after a certain amount of time? Anyone know?
