My son had his first picc last August when he had a bronc, but I would never let them try putting in a picc awake. No way! If you tell them to put him under they will.

Ok...Good!
My fear was that they were going to just use something like Ativan and I know that would not be enough. He has so much anxiety over everything since his last picc...even blood draws send him through the roof!

Oh Tonya, I'm sorry to hear Andrew needs IV's yet again!!!

Obviously my dd is not a tween, but my experience was over the weekend. They did not have a full PICC team around and they wound up giving Alyssa NOTHING. I was soooo pissed off after I learned that the PICC insertion could be so much easier on them.

You are the mom and you know what Andrew needs. If you believe he needs to go under to do it, stick to your guns. No one will fight for your son like you will.

I can assure you I would NEVER put my daughter through a sedation free PICC again. I told our doctor that and he promised that from now on her PICCs would be done during the week so that we could have any option we wanted.

I am sorry to see he has to go back in so soon, but it sounds like it was really needed!!

My daughter was lightly sedated when they put her PICC in, but thank goodness she didn't remember any of it! My husband and I were in the room with her during the procedure, and had she even struggled, I would had lost it.

I hope he gets better soon and back to his normal<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
