I'll give the example of two clinics; I do realize none are astonishingly above average the way Minnesota is for example.
All Children's in Tampa has an average FEV1 of 93.3% (nat. average is 89.6%) and BMI of 48% (the national average.) Their Guidelines for Care is 76.6% (nat. average is 68.2%) Their children's lung function has steadily increased over the last 5yrs- reflecting continual efforts at adjusting treatments, etc for the betterment of their patients. This clinic is the one, I think, with the best numbers in FL from what I can remember (and they are a transplant center, taking sicker patients.)
Nemour's in Jax. FEV1 is 85.4%, BMI averages 39.3% and Guidelines for Care of 61.7% and their statistics have not improved over the last 5yrs. Now, I have never been to this clinic or any clinic in FL; I can't say the drs there are not good. But it's good to KNOW this information compared to others with a better set of numbers so you know the questions to ask and what treatments, medications, etc to more aggressively ask for. Statistics don't tell the whole story, but are a valuable tool to gauge health of the population of kids under their care, and the 'Guidelines for Care' tells us how many kids are being followed as often as they should.
