Vanessa,

It is not only due to our nourishment issues but also steroid therapy. Personally, I was on high dose prednisone during puberty(which was some what late mind you) and lost some height due to that. I am 5'8" and my brother is 6'3", but I am better looking so it is a given and take!

I never got "teased", but I remember when being taller then my Mom was my goal in life. She is 5' 2" & I am 5' 3". I like being short. I can wear heals, date shorter guys & still look up at them etc. There are many advantages to it. Petite is perfect!

im an exception to the cf = short rule. im 6' AND female <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0"> i agree with jazzysmom, petite is perfect. being tall causes so many problems, physical, social, mental. id kill to be shorter.

My boys are really short for their age, they just started grade 6 but most people think they are in Grade 1 or 2. They do get teased alot but they brush it off telling everybody that good things come in small packages, lol. The thing that they get most frustrated at is that people, mainly adults tend to treat them like they were alot younge than they really are.

On another note.....my 7 year old daughter is only 9 inches shorter than me. She doesnt have CF & takes after her Dad in height & build. Just as much as you dont like being short, she is disliking being tall. Everyday someone tells her how tall she is (like she doesnt know it) & she should be a model or basketball player. She is beautiful and the shape of a model, but I hope she doesnt go that route in life because I want people to see her for her inner beauty not just the physical. As far as being a basketball star. I enjoy the game & wouldnt mind my husband not having to work! However, if she doesnt choose something that her heighth can help will she feel more out of sorts.....find the silver lineing.

I dont think being short is caused by your cf I think being short has to do with your parents and your family genes, but the weight issue, yes that is part of Cf, Im only 5' and Iam taller than my mom which was one of my goals to accomplish which was done successfully and my sister is I think a little bit taller than me, I think 5'1 or 2 and she doesnt have cf, my bro was my grandpa hieght 5'7 I believe with no cf also. Basically I have short people genes. By the way my mom is 4'11.

Ha ha. =-) Vanessa, did you get pushed in lockers? Maybe that only happens with boys, but I got pushed in a lot of lockers. =-) I remember I always kept the bottom part of my locker clean, so when i got shoved in I would have more room. =-)

Side note, Has anyone seen the movie "Angus?" He he, it's not about a cow. =-) It's about a high school kid who's teased a lot because he's fat. Anyway, he overcomes it and it's a really really good movie, though there's one really sad part. I don't know how, but whoever wrote the movie really knew how to make people cry; more than any other movie. It's still good, though!

Yup, I'm short, too. 5' 4". I remember asking my mom about this and she told me that yes, CF affects your height. She doesn't call me short, she likes to use the word "petite". Lol. My boyfriend is about 6' 2", so we make a rather odd couple ^_^ I got teased for my height, too, but only for a little bit and mostly by the guys. If they did it to be malicious, I'd just tell them that due to my height I had much better aim if I wanted to kick them in the...well, I think you get it. Needless to say they left me alone after that ^_^

I think it just depends on whether your CF results in "failure to thrive". I think that is what they call it. I am 5'7'', my Dad is 5'10'', and Mom is 5'1''. So I guess I am right in the middle. Plus I weigh almost 150 so thats why I say it depends. Just gotta hope them enzymes do the job and take them ADEKS : ).

My daughter (no cf) has always been taller than her peers. My son (CF) is very short. At our last appt they asked if we had short people in our families. My Mom is 5' 4" and my sister is 5' 1 but I'm 5' 5" And my spouse is 5' 10". So we're not giants by any means but I would have to say my son's CF may play a little part in his height since his sister has always been so tall for her age. ??????

MockingBird LOL thankfully i was never pushed into lockers but i was called names im not in school anymore i am 20 years old and married but i still remember it like it was yesterday but i feel better about my height now . My husband is like 6'1 lol so when we go out i usually wear high heels hehe !

I'm 5'2". My friends used to make fun, but it was all in jest. They used to pick me up and throw me around and stuff because I was small and it easy. They still make fun of me for it sometimes now (Mike calls me a pygmy), but I've decided it makes me petite and cute. I've grown to like it.

Ha ha, i almost forgot about the picking up and throwing. =-) I actually had a lot of fun with that. =-) More fun than sitting in a locker, anyway. =-)

Ha ha, I guess I should clarify, Two people would pick me up by my arms and legs, then swing me, (you know, 1,2,3, Throw! =-) tos see how high I would go. =-) and eventually, they were like, "Dude! You're just like a cat!" 'cause I would always land on my feet, but really I think it was only because of the natural force of the throwing. =-)

Ha ha, I also have pointy ears, so my little sisters used to believe I was one of Santa's elves. =-) I got called a leprechaun, too, in school, but I actually liked it. =-) I was proud of my pointy ears. =-)

Ha ha, i blew up a picture so you could see them =-) The left one kinda lost some pointy-ness over the years, but the right one is as pointy as ever. =-)
