Should he be tested again?

Thanks for your reply. I just chatted online with my insurance company. They said they can't tell me if the genetic test is covered until the doctor tells me some kind of code and then they can tell me if it needs to be authorized first or not. I am hoping that even if the insurance won't cover it, his medical assistance will. His insurance actually won't cover for him to see a feeding team for his failure to thrive. They said they would only cover it if he is diabetic. They also wouldn't cover for the pump when he needed the feeding tube but the covered the tubes and bags. Makes no sense. That was why he was put on medical assistance. I am just trying to figure it all out before I take him to the doctor. I am writing things down that have been going on so I don't forget. I will request that he orders the ambry full panel test for CF right? It will not show any other genetic problems if they only request for CF will it? I have an autoimmune disease that I believe they say is genetic. That also could be causing his problems and even if that isn't what is causing his problems, I would still like to know because it might be an issue when he gets older...it can cause blood clots and stuff.

Like the other posters said I would get the full panel genetic test to rule out CF. I can not imagine why any reasonable doctor would not order that test; it is just a blood test. If you have problems getting it covered contacting a lawyer tends to get things moving. I had my son genetically tested because my daughter has CF and it was covered no problem; he had no symptoms of CF it was just cause of our family history...

I'm so sorry you are going through so much trying to help your child. I've been there. My son was 15 yrs. old before he was diagnosed. I always knew there was something more than asthma and severe allergies, but I hit brick walls much like you have.

If you can get your child to a CF clinic in your area, please do. I think you have to test for it. Also, have any of his doctors mentioned enzymes? With the weight gain problems, I think they should consider trying them.

I really hope you find the answers you need to help your child. Keep us posted.
