I guess I can't stay away from this site because you guys are the only one's I can go too to ask questions.

Courtney is now feeling like she is going to throw up and is feeling REALLY bad! Today is the last day of school before the Easter break and they have a pep rally, and they can wear whatever they want so I know she is not feeling well if she does not want to go to school today.

SHOULD I TAKE HER BACK TO THE DOCTOR? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO?????

Go with your gut-what does your gut tell you?

And you're right-if a teenager is passing up the opportunity to go to the pep rally and all that fun-that says alot. Poor thing-I hope she starts feeling better.

My gut tells me that there is something major wrong. I just called the docs to get her test results......THE DOC WON'T EVEN BE IN TODAY!!!!

So I have no test result, a kid that feels worse, and have NO IDEA what to do!

If she is feeling really bad take her to the hospital. Is it her CF doctor that is not in or her primary care doctor? There will always be another prep rally. She will thank you when she is feeling better. I hate when I can't get results to tests that I am waiting for. It drive me nuts.

Seana -
Her pain isn't in the lower right side, is it? My son had this happen and they at first thought it was his appendix (i think) but after the surgeon (not cf doctor) he didn't think it was. It was actually intersepseption (sp?) where the small intestine and large interlap each other, caused usually by some constipation. Even though my son was still having bowel movements. They gave him a barium enema and it fixed the problem. It was real sharp lower pain and the 1st time he was throwing up too - we thought it was the flu. But after 24 hours we took him in. Anyway this happened 3 times in a couple months so they changed his enzymes and so far no more problems. I wish you both luck!!! PS hope you stay on - I do learn alot from all of you!!:)

Our CF clinic is 800 miles away, so unless there is something serious going on she has a primary doc, a gastro doc that comes to town once a month, and a pulmonary doc here in our town.

The one with the test results is her primary.

I am almost to the point that I am going to take her to the ER and demand an ultrasound!

I would bring her to the ER if she is still feeling bad.  It
may be nothing but I think it is better to know than to worry.

No pain on the lower right side.

The pain starts in the upper-middle back and radiates to the belly button area.

Pain comes and goes....it is not constant.

She has not thrown up, but feeling of throwing up also comes and goes.....its worse after she eats.

I agree with the others...if she is feeling that bad, please take her to the ER. With CF, it could be anything. At least you will get a diagnosis and she will get the treatment she needs to finally get comfortable. My thoughts and prayers going out to both of you...Jenn

I agree-take her. Don't wait around. If feelings of nausea or vomitting are coming, you should definately go. Take her to the ER, make sure she's stable and then maybe see if she can be admitted in her cf clinic?

I hope everything's ok-please let us know when you find out what's up and how she's doing. You'll be in my thoughts today.

Hey there,
I hate that she is having such a hard time. I remember readig your other post and seeing something about her gallbladder.
I also had strong urges to throw up when I was having problems with my gallbladder. I ultimately would throw up though to relieve the pain. One thing that I found helpful was to not drink soda - if your daughter is a soda drinker maybe you could cut those out for now and see if that helps until you can get some help and info from your docs. It was helpful for me to the point where I had no pain or attacks when I didn't drink soda but when I did I was sick within the hour after drinking the soda.
I do hope she starts feeling better and that things are handled and you guys can find out what is wrong. I personally would take her to the hospital if you think there is something wrong. You and Courtney will know her body best, so if you two think there is a problem there most likely is.

Good Luck and hope she starts feeling better.

Seanna, I would er on the side of caution. With her other health problems, I would hate to see the escalate. I do know that a gall blader infection or stones can be extremely painfull. Take her to the ER and say, make her better! Its almost a holiday weekend and you will not get any help then! Follow your instinct.

I'm not sure what tests they did to her but she needs an ultrasound to determine if it's gallbladder. There is no current medicine that is widely accepted as a sure fire answer to gallbladder problems. The only solution to gallbladder problems is to get it removed. Once it starts making stones it always will (this is what I was told by my gastro doctor). Are you going to a gastro doc that was recommended to you by your CF team? You should be. Ask the gastro doc. for a recommendation of two general surgeons - make appt's ASAP to meet with the first one - if you don't feel 100% confident with him check out the second. My gastro doc. said I really wanted to avoid getting it out in the ER so make plans fast to see the surgeon and schedule the surgery. You can always cancel the surgery should it turn out to be non-gallbladder related. Avoid ER surguries if at all possible - cepacia, mrsa and botched surgeries are all at the ER.

Life is like a race and you're in the lead!

By the way, I had my gallbladder out (CF related) in Jan. '05 after years of suffering...

The gastro doc that she will see today is part of the CF team at Willford Hall in San Antonio.

Courtney's dad is military so we go through a military hospital but I would assume we would be sent out in town if she does need surgery. Last month when she was hospitalized they sent us to the pediatric hospital in town.

Many of you are stating that you have had your gallbladder removed.

IS THIS COMMON IN CFERS??

Lindsey......I am VERY anti soda, but have been allowing Courtney to have 1 soda a day for the calories. Her pain was there before I started allowing her the one soda, but that is good information to know!

AGAIN....THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT ADVICE!!!
