Shoveling snow with a PICC...UPDATE

So now that I am living away from my parents, I will be responsible for the shoveling out of my car and my fiancee's. There is a HUGE storm coming up the coast to the Northeast, blizzard conditions and whatnot. Of course it will be hitting overnight Sunday into Monday (the day I have my follow up from my IV's). I have no idea what I am going to do as far as shoveling...

I mean, I could probably get someone in the apartment complex to do it for me. But have any of you ever shoveled snow with a PICC? Is that totally out of line/over the weight limit of lifting? I am done with my abx, but was told I had to keep the PICC till my appt. I just want to be able to get the PICC out, so if the doctor is in the office, I will try my hardest to get there...who knows, maybe he won't even be in that day if it's as bad as they say.

****** I did shovel my car out. I had backed into the spot so all I had to shovel was the front and make sure I was able to get out. I did it, pretty quickly. But some @$$hole parked next to my Fiance's wheelchair accesible van...so he can't go anywhere (not that he has to go to work, but if there were an emergency). I'm pissed!

I don't see why it would be too much of a problem, I've played hockey and softball with a picc in before. I'd say just take your time and don't try to lift a ton in one shovel full.

While I'm having an inhouse tuneup they send me for physical therapy and I'll lift some weights while I'm there with the picc in. Fortunately I live in Texas and the only snow I ever "shoveled" was really a winter slush wet mess off the driveway so it didn't freeze there. Do you really have to shovel it off the roof so it doesn't cave in? I think you would be ok to do it yourself but if you have a willing neighbor, take him for coffee afterwards.

I never really changed any of my routine when I had PICCs in... like others said, take your time, but I cant imagine it being too much of a problem.

But if you still arent comfortable bribe a friend with beer

The reason I want to be able to shovel is so that I can *attempt* to go to Boston (an hour away) to get the PICC out. If I can't get there tomorrow I will have to wait until Wed.

I like your suggestions though! I will have to wait and see, I guess. If there are people out in the parking lot when I need shoveling I may try and ask, if not...we will see.

i wouldn't worry about the picc, i'd worry about your lungs-only bc you have a check up the next day. i'd try to find a neighbor kid in his teens and pay him to take care of it for you if you can.

I think that's fine. Can't you just take out the PICC? I have found that it's so much better to just take the PICCs out at home for my 6 year old. He actually took the last one out all by himself! He undid all the dressing and then just pulled it out. It took awhile but it went fine. Good luck!
