Showering with a port-a-cath?

The Aqua Guards look great.
Another solution that's maybe a little quicker to get (which would work for a PICC, but not necess a cath) was recommended to me by a hospital nurse: "Glad Press N Seal" I used it when I got home for my PICC and didn't even need tape.

I should say, the AquaGuards are AWESOME, but I use a little extra tape on the sides just to be safe. Paper tape works fine. They still leak sometimes, but I'd say about one time out of 7 or so. I've personally never had much luck with cling wrap or whatever, but I'm a big fan of water pressure in the shower

I usually just keep piling on the "TEGADERM" by 3M...I like the 5x7 ones

I have a medi-port that is strategically placed under/on the side of my left boob, so it's pretty easy to avoid getting totally soaked...usually the tegaderms does a good job That and/or hold a wash-cloth under my armpart. And even if it gets damp and uick dressing change is all you need

Yes, to avoid infection and clotting, an accessed port is supposed to be changed at least once a week.

With our son, we don't allow anyone else to access his port. If medical personnel needed to access it, we would access it for them. You have a much higher chance of being more meticulous than someone who isn't emotionally invested in preventing infection.

In our case, we can't leave him accessed constantly. He'll require twice weekly infusions for the rest of his life. We just access twice a week.
