SIBLING TESTING?

Hi everybody....... I am just wondering.......

How did you get docs to do genetic testing on your child's siblings?

Initially I didn't think about what symptoms my older kids had, until we got down to business with Wade, and of course, now I see some mild symptoms in two of my other kids. My oldest doesn't seem to have any. I blew the symptoms off as allergies, until Wade was "for sure" CF. We have gotten 2 out of three siblings sweat tests done and the last is scheduled. The 2 that were finished were in the 20's. I realize the likelyhood of CF in small when it comes to the low sweat tests, but in reality it does happen. My two middle sons have allergies, and one of them exhibit similiar problems that Wade has. Not as much, but similiar. I have talked the doc into a PFT for him, but that is as far as I can seem to get so far. He will have it in a month.

So does anybody have any ideas, or personal stories to get these siblings genetic testing done? Personally I think anytime a kid is diagnosed with ANYTHING, it should be automatic to test their siblings by genetic tests, and everything else that goes along with the disease.

please let me know....thanks

I would set aside the whole sweat test if the gene mutations are known. Then, I would imagine, you should be able to have them tested for the mutations that your CFer has. That's what we did with our DS w/out CF.

my parents were tested for my particular CF genes, so were my grandparents, some of my aunts & uncles and cousins.

it's easy once you know of the two genes involved. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

thanks, but what i am wondering is did anybody have trouble getting their siblings (cf'er siblings) geneticly tested? or did your docs just automatically do it? and would like to hear your stories/comments on how you got the docs to do siblings tests.

i still appreciate the comments though. i will keep this in mind and maybe suggest this to docs.

thanks again!
