Sinus Infections

Just have a question for all of you. Stacia has been having sinus infections for the past six months. We have been on antibiotics every month. She gets better for about two weeks then we just start all over again. The last two times we had to have prednisone to kick it.

We met with an ENT the other day to have her sinus problems checked out, he doesn't want to do surgery on them because of her age and with everything not being developed yet. Instead he is going to take out her Adnoids and Tonsils. Have any of you with kids with Chronic Sinusitis had this done and did it help. I am about at the end of my rope with all the gross snotty nose thing.

DS had a similar issue when he was a baby -- he'd be on augmentin for two weeks and the nastiness would return. His doctor finally put him on it for a month to knock it out once and for all and if it didn't work, they were going to try something else. Fortunately it did.

Does she do sinus/nasal washes. DS does them from time to time and I'm amazed at all the crud we get out. My BIL (no cf) has done regular ones, ones with abx in them and also has a sinus nebulizer which he uses to inhale saline and/or abx.

As for the tonsils and adenoids... My husband and his family had issues more with ear and throat infections and every single one of them said they no longer had issues once they got them out. I had my tonsils out at age 35 after years of sinus headaches and cryptic (chronically infected) tonsils. I WISH I'd done it a lot sooner. Recovery wasn't so great, by because my tonsils were so huge and full of infection, I felt immediate relief breathing wise. I had more room to breathe.

Stacia,

Has she had a CT scan done of her sinuses? My last blog talks about what Zoe is going through right now. I'm interested in why he said because of her age. Zoe is only 4. Does she cough & clear her throat? If her sinuses are packed with the hard, thick, impacted mucus, I don't think any antibiotics will get rid of it. At least that is what our docs are telling us. Hence, Zoe's last 6 months of courses of antibiotics. But, then again, her sinuses are causing her problems. Wow, this probably didn't help much...<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

Hugs to you guys...

I agree with you I had mine out when I was 25 and I always said I rather deliver fifty kids then go through that again. No the dr. never said anything about the nasal rinses thought he would but didn't. He thinks this is step one. My son no cf had his out at age three for all the ear infections and it did wonders for that
