Hi! Catalinaohara.

I had surgery done last Monday week and I have to come clear it was not a nice experience for me at all everyone is different. I coughed up a lot of blood and felt nausea until today and could not get out of bed until today. I reckon it was the anesthetic. I did stay in over night.
It was hard getting my padding out of my nose but, you have to grin and bare it, think of something nice!!

I have no headaches since but, I am finding it very hard to breath through my nose especially at night time. I am sleeping with three pillows under my head at night time. I feel my nose is filling up and sometimes I am swollening it.

My ENT said it was successful operation and I have to see him tomorrow. I am looking forward to the future. I know that my infection come from my sinsus.

Good luck and it will be over very soon for you.

thanks everyone for your responses. I ended up NOT having the surgery. I had some hemoptysis the night before the surgery (tuesday night), and upon lots of consideration by the doctors, they all decided they did not want to proceed...specifically it was the anesthesiologists who were so hesitant. So now, because it was meant to be scheduled in the middle of a cleanout, we are thinking we are going to put it off until the next cleanout.

i have to say i am a bit relieved. I think I need to put some more thought into this. I have NO symptoms, is there anyone out there who had surgery with NO previous symptoms other than a sinus CT showing blockage (which isnt really a 'symptom'). ?

anyway, we'll see what the future holds.

thanks again everyone

I'm so sorry that you are having sinus surgery. It is a bit rough of an experience to get over. However, once you recover, you will be glad you did it. You won't have sinus headaches anymore and you'll be able to breathe a lot better.. And you'll be able to actually smell!

Make sure you take it easy. Get plenty of rest and don't wear yourself out. Take your pain meds and plan on laying on the couch being useless for a good week or two. I made the mistake once I felt like I was feeling better of going to the mall, and I almost passed out. Don't over do it. Just because you start feeling better doesn't mean you've gotten your strength back. That stuff they give us to knock us out takes a toll on our system just as much as the actual surgery does. So keep in mind that stuff takes a while to get out of your system.

If they put a lot of packing up there, be prepared when you go back to get it taken out. That can be a little painful and sickening. A lot of blood and stuff will come out of there when they do that, so you might feel a bit faint. No one warned me about that, so it was a little tramatic. But ifyou are expecting it, it's not as bad.

I hope everything turns out well, Good luck!

I've had three of these bad boys, the first being 17 years ago and the last one 7 years ago, and I'm probably about due for another. The first one was rough for two reasons. First, the doc was a hack, and did a pretty messy job, as the two docs who did the following two confirmed my suspicions. Secondly, they have to do a bit of trail blazing up there, drilling holes and what not to make paths for drainage and access. So the first one's a little rougher. That being said, it's still a rather minor procedure. You'll have a pretty bad headache for a few days, but that's about it. It's well worth it for how much easier it will make things.

edit: oh and as far as packing, the last two I had it was this packing that breaks down on its on so that it kind of comes out in gross chunks as you blow your nose as opposed to the uncomfortable process of having it removed.
