Sinus treatment that is really helping me

I recently switched ENTs after being a bit unhappy with my previous one. I had tried several different things - twice daily hypertonic sinuses rinses, adding baby shampoo to the rinses, Nasonex, and xylitol nasal spray. But I was still have chronic post nasal drip, congestion, reduced sense of smell, and headaches. (And scopes by two different ENTs showed that I did not need another sinus surgery).

So, this new guy had me added Alkalol to my sinuses rinses. The recipe he gave me is 1/4 cup Alkalol, 3/4 cup of water, and a sinus rinse packet. He said I could also add 3 drops of baby shampoo to the rinse, which I am doing. When I am rinsing, it burns like the fire of 10,000 suns, but it really gets a lot of junk out and it makes me feel so much better!

The other thing he had me do was dissolve two Singulair tablets in a 1.5 fluid ounce of saline nasal spray and squirt two sprays in each nostril twice daily.

He said he's found the combo of Alkalol and Singulair spray really helps people. It has definitely helped me and I just wanted to pass this along in case it could help anyone else.

***edited to revise the nasal spray quantity from 1.5 ml to 1.5 fluid ounce****
Hi thanks for the post but I'm a little confused? Is the Singulair spray separate from the Neti pot? Also what container or device do you put the singulair in order to be able to spray it in your nostrils??

I have been using Alkalol for about 15 years now and i really like it too. I use a water pik with a special attachment for rinsing sinuses. I put about 2 Tablespoons or more of Alkalol to 18 ounces of distilled water with a packet of Neil med hypertonic saline added. I warm it for about 60 sec in the microwave first. I have not tried the baby shampoo or other additives. I have noticed that if i use too much alkalol I have to dilute it down so it won't burn. The distilled water helps with less burning also.
It is amazing how gunked up the sinuses can get !
Yes, the Singulair spray is separate from the Neti pot. My ENT has my buy a 1.5 fl oz bottle of saline nasal spray from the drug store, pry off the nozzle, drop in two Singulair tablets, put the nozzle back on, and shake the bottle. Then I spray two sprays in each nostril twice a day. The bottle lasts me a month. I'm sorry for the confusion - I hope this clears it up!
