Sinuses acting up

Yesterday afternoon my cough increased and I could tell it was from sinus drainage. I think it's because of increased outdoor allergens and stuff blooming. Anyway, I rinsed out my sinuses when I got home from work, but I continued coughing. I coughed until about 3 in the morning and finally went to sleep with sleeping aid (1 Benadryl). My cough continued today (I took a 1/2 of a Benadryl, since it makes me sleepy.) and I wonder if it's dropping into my lungs.

So, here are my questions: How do you know when it's moved into your lungs? How long do you wait before contacting the doctor? Also, does anybody have any suggestions of things I could do at home to prevent this sinus thing from dropping into my lungs? (I rarely go outdoors unless to walk from house to the car and vice versus. If I'm out longer, I wear a mask. I have tried to work on getting rid of allergens around the house.) Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Jeana,
I am dealing with that same situation...however, my chest IS affected.
It started last Friday, I woke up not feeling great, increased cough, etc. So for a week I've been doing my vest like crazy to try to clear all of this junk out of my airways. I'm also taking OTC Allegra D to help keep my sinuses open so I don't get a sinus infection on top of the rest of this crud.
I'm allergic to so many meds, that I don't even call the dr. They tell me to ride it out, which sucks, I don't want to think of the damage I'm doing to my lungs.
I've been drinking a ton of water to keep hydrated. So just try to do your best and hope for the best, too.

Good luck and I hope we both feel better!!

That happened to me last week...chronic sinus problems for weeks, then finally started coughing. I was going to tough it out, but I finally called in for ABx and I'm glad I did!

If you notice you are coughing or get really tired (or don't have your usual energy) just call your doctor. It has made a HUGE difference in energy level.

There are no oral antibiotics for me. If I have to take antibiotics, I have to be hospitalized. Well, I know the cough was from sinuses, but I've felt a tightness in my lungs. I don't have decreased energy and I haven't been SOB, though. I am doing an extra Vest treatment a day and today I did two Pulmozymes instead of one. I hope that helps!
