Sit with me

I do sit with my girls about 95% of the time. You would think that the two of them could keep each other company, but it just doesn't seem to work that way. We usually either play legos, a game, watch tv and eat a snack. Sometimes they get some reading in when it's on the lower settings (the vest). I still enjoy the time together

I can somewhat relate. My son doesn't necessarily ask me to sit with him, but he is constantly saying "How many minutes do I have left? I want you to count down the time I have left!" Well, I can proudly say that at his first parent/teacher conference for his 4 year old kindergarten, his teacher informed us that she was very impressed he knows how to count so high. She said he is the only one in the class that can count to 60!

Gosh, I was just thinking about this today wondering if Aidan would start doing his treatments on his own again but he totally thinks it is "our" time together. For a while he was sitting with the VEST on, doing his nebs, watching a DVD. Then he realized that if I left to do something and he threw the neb on the floor (dumping some pretty pricey meds) I would be back! SO now it is back to me doing it with him an hour a day.

He sits on my lap, we watch a DVD while nebbing and the VEST. When the nebs are over, we read books together. He loves it and I have come to enjoy it as well. I do worry when this second baby is born how I will manage the time but I guess I'll learn somehow. It so amazes me how he is so willing to do it everyday and I think some of it is because he gets my full attention. Sharon- I always wondered how you did it with two young ones? Do you have two Respirtechs?

When I was a kid, it was the old fashioned 'pounding' so my parents HAD to be with me. Punishment for us both.
But now, life with the vest is so much better. Being an adult, it is so easy to get my vest and nebs in but I remember the days when I was younger and I felt like it was a punishment because I had to go off by myself when the others had 'family time.'
My niece also has CF and wants to be with her family during treatments. They keep the vest/nebs in the TV room (where everyone is). And she will do them while they watch tv, read, talk, etc. Now that she is 7 she puts her vest in front of the computer and does her kid websites. This has worked out very well because she gets to be a big kid and have time to herself (3 younger brothers).
This is just an idea for you for when your kids are old enough. I thought it might help a little to have input from someone who has 'been there and done that.'
Good luck to you and your little ones!

DS is after us to get him a playstation. So we figure in a few years, we'll look at something like that. Meanwhile, we just kick back in our room and watch tv. Last night we played with his action figures -- has a huge bin of them from DH's boss' kids. I always get to be the bad guys -- last night I was the joker

You all are such good parents, all of you that have posted here. I don't know how I would've done it if it had been Demelza and not Kaylee who had cf. I have nothing but admiration for you all, even though, I know, you're just doing what you have to do to keep your children healthy. Just wanted to give you a pat on the back, and a "good job" heads up!

I am going to respond to my own thread now that I had a chance to hear from all of you. We are very lucky at this point in time because we don't have to do nebs. Sitting with Sheila during therapy has become part of our lives as well as hers. We do take turns and there are times when we play cards, computer games, game cube games or just watch tv (turned up as loud as it will go LOL) Thank you all for sharing your daily cf situations. This web site certainly has made a difference to me and understanding cf. I am viewing blogs and threads daily and although I don't know any of you personally, your great! Thanks again.
