Is he hungry when he wakes up? I ask because my son did not sleep through the night until he was 18 months old. He was hungry in the night. My doctor told us that since he was diagnosed due to failure to thrive he had a lot of catching up to do in the nourishment department and I had to feed him whenever he was hungry...even at night. I was a zombie for 18 months, but he did come around eventually.

Myself and my son don't have any issues with sleep. We both have cf.

How's his daytime sleep? I highly recommend the book Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child. It taught me a lot about children's sleep patterns.

Well thanks for the responses. I'm not sure whether this info is encouraging or discouraging yet. Probably both. He doesn't seem to be bothered by stuffiness but he does have alot of gassiness. Is that common?

I think that sometimes he is hungry and I do breastfeed him at least 3 times a night. That said this is definitely an issue with his ability to put himself to sleep. I talked to our CF nurse today and he says that he has seen CF kids have sleep issues for a variety of reasons, reflux was one of them. I have an appt for 2 weeks out. It was the soonest they could getus in for a non-emergency issue. So now I can just suffer through the next two weeks. UUUUGGGHHHH.... I really just need a break and about 36 hours of sleep

Can I ask why you aren't willing to CIO?

We used this method with our kids when they were about 7 months old and within 3 weeks, they were sleeping 7pm to 6:30am. I NEVER thought I could let my kids cry like that, and DH and I had to hold eachother back from going to go get them. But I'm so glad we stuck with it for those few weeks, it was hard, many tears, lots of other "activities" to occupy myself and my mind, but WELL worth it for the sound sleep.
