Smoking

what gets me is when you walk outside the hospital and one metre from the door there's people with their oxygen masks off, smoking!
another thing that reeeally gets up my goat is when a nurse comes in after their break smelling of smoke. helooooo you work on a RESPIRATORY ward, meaning people with LUNG diseases, are you planning on becoming a patient? its like they have no consideration for us who are unfortunately lying in a hospital bed through no fault of our own and they're out polluting their lungs.
sorry if this sounds bitter that just annoys me so much!!

Ok, I just had to bud in on this one. In California there was a law passed to ban all smoking indoors quite a while ago, and I'm very happy about that. However, my sister's still smoke even though they know what I went through before my transplant. My one sister was even a care taker of mine, and she saw others on the waiting list, some of which were from smoking. Well, I think my sisters tend to think they can smoke with no problem because my problems was genetic, and they certainly don't have CF. Well, I'm fine if people want to smoke and take the risk of lung cancer. I don't like my friends or loved ones smoking, and I encourage them to quit.

But I still stand on my belief: No one with lung cancer from smoking deserves a second chance with a lung transplant. This may sound very harsh, but haven't we all known for years there is a risk of getting cancer? The answer my friends is YES. Any doctor will tell someone they shouldn't smoke. I also believe that no one should be able to sue a tabaco company. How lame is it when people know how bad something can be, yet they still do it, and then only die from it, and then the family wants to sue.... uuuhg that makes me soooo mad.

Anyways, just wanted to put in my 2 cents <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Even before I started going out with my boyfriend I knew he had CF and loved him anyways but I have to admit I was glad that would mean he would probably not be a smoker! I can't tell you I shoked I was when I found out his parents smoked ALL THE TIME!!! I mean both of them smoke like chimnees it's unbelievable! It didn't seem to bother him however and I have to say that when I finally met his parents it changed my opinion a bit. I mean the house or the clothes did not smell like smoke at all (I've never seen a house so clean in my entire life) and his parents are always careful where they smoke, I know the best would be not to smoke (and that CF or not), but in their case I can see why it doesn't bother him at all that his parents smoke as much as they do!

Hi There,
As of today a new law has been passed that says no smoking or restaurants or bars in this country. (New zealand).
I then had a friend who smokes complain to me about how unfair it is.
After 30 minutes of complaining I said oh boo hoo for you, your problem is that you have a good set of lungs and insist of treating them badly.
Why should people with CF like my son have to inhale your crap!
She went pale and apologized, I don't think she will complain to me about this again!
And hopefully she will think twice before lighting up and letting other people inhale her cigarette smoke.

Hi where are you from? I'm just wondering because I am curious if your dating the guy I know. Both his parents smoke and his name is Bill. So I was just curious to see if it's him or not.

I was on another message board. It's the one on the WB where people talk about the shows on that station like 7th Heaven and Smallville. Well there was another topic about smoking and some girl went on and on about how non-smokers should be considerate to her because she is addicted and how we are just mean and cruel by making smokers go outside to smoke. I was so mad I went off. I said you were the one who chose to destroy your lungs and if you expect me to feel sorry for you, you are sorely mistaken. How dare you think that because you want to die of cancer that other peeople want to also. I said I have CF and if you are so determined to ruin your lungs then you can trade with me. I gave her this site to and said next time before you open your fat mouth think!!!!

The thing that annoys me the most is smokers thinking it's only them they affect - on the resp ward in hosp so many are thereclogging up our hosp beds cos they smoked- so annoying - nad the ones that didn't know it ws bad for them are almost gone now.

I take great satisfaction in telling dads and dads-to-be that even if they don't smoke around their babies they still have a higher chance of getting cancer thru skin contact...That stuns them. and i tell them of the people i speak to in hosp who say they only wish they'd stopped ages ago or never started.

my mother in law to be doesn't like me - she thinks i bring her boy down - noone is good enough for him it seems - and smokes around me - The worst ois when she is in her own home. what can i say there?? Her and his sister both do it - it makes me want to cry -no respect for his partner and he is so used to them smoking around him that he doesn't realise unitl i bug him about it after. Lucky we live 2600kms away form them

Good on the person who walked out of the restuarant!! In Australia you cannot smoke in an eating area anymore, except for highroller rooms in Casinos - the law really does favour the rich!! And hotels bars etc may only have one smoking room after Jan1 2006 - pity that most clubs are 1 room! At least it's a step in the right direction.
