I also have a cavity in my left lung....it is where my aspergilloma ( fungus ball ) is residing. We dont know if the cavity was there first and the fungus ball formed in it or if the fungus ball caused it. I was diagnosed with this fu ngus ball while in the hospital last Oct. for hemoptysis. They did a cat scan right before the embolization and the next day my Dr. came in the room and told me about the fungus ball. Apparently the fungus ball was responsible for some of my hemoptysis epidodes.
Im glad you got the cat scan , they can see so much more in them. What got me was....all the x-rays i have had taken in the past year not one of them showed the fungus ball. Scary to think if i hadnt had the cat scan taken , how much further this could have grown unchecked. I'l say a preyer for you that things turn out ok and treatment is effective and swift.

Thanks for the advice guys. This is what happened today:

I was originally told to show up at 10am for a regular clinic visit. Doing that would have given me 4-5 hrs sleep with all my nebs and work and crap. So I called her, reminded her that the only thing I didn't do the previous day was a PFT, and do I really need to be there that early? After calling my doc she called me back and told me that I just needed to show up later, before they stop clinic, and just give a sputum sample and he will go over my ct scan results. I got there late, maybe 40 mins before clinic ended. I guess I got there later than they expected. They paged him several times (he had probably left for the weekend at this point). After waiting around a while, he got back with them and told them to get the sputum sample. My last sputum sample wasn't good enough...I hacked and coughed like mad, and produced just a very slight green speck, with the rest being saliva basically. Due to just getting off antibiotics, and me having weak bugs, I have been basically crystal clear, and can't produce much if anything.

They gave me a HS neb, and a sample cup. I coughed like mad afterwards and nada...Wasn't happening. I was also going to be late for work. I told them to give me some sample cups, and I would work on it over the weekend and if I get any up ill run in monday to drop it off with them. I guess there can be some good news...The doc didn't leave any information regarding my ct scan, and didn't call me to go over it. So I guess it's not as bad as I feared before. Not meaning im taking this lightly, but im just saying if it was a bad situation, i'd be recovering from surgery now I guess. Monday im gonna take in what I have, and discuss the ct scan.

For some reason, I have a gut feeling it is just something low threat and staph related, or some old lung damage of some kind cause i've always had probs with my lower lobes on each side. Who knows, and I *REALLY* hope it's not what I have heard you guys describe, but I am being 100% compliant. i didn't have a single beer for the two weeks I was on the antibiotics.

Thanks for your update. I too have trouble giving sputum samples on demand so my cf clinic gives me a sterile cup after my appointments so that when I go in for my next check-up that morning I can collect my sputum that comes up during my treadmill routine and vest treatment (before I begin my nebs). I hand it in as soon as I arrive for my appointment...this way I have a sample that they can use for culturing otherwise I end up getting way too much saliva in the culture which messes it up.

I hope the results from your cat scan and sputum culture turn out not to be significant for you but if it turns out to be MAC or a fungus or something else you didn't bargain for just remember, "you can handle it".... you're a tough guy and can handle whatever comes your way

I love hearing that you are being 100% compliant! Good for you!

Please let us know what turns up and how you are doing. Keeping you in prayer.
