So now what?

My 5 year old eldest daughter (she was 2 at the time) did a sweat test just to confirm if she had CF or not. She was also screened at 6 weeks and came back negative, but because her younger sister was diagnosed CF they asked if we wanted to repeat it and we did. Don't know yet whether she is a carrier of the CF gene or not, don't feel the need to know at the moment.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif" border="0">

She has digestive issues. Looking back, before she was diagnosed she took a month to regain her birth weight. None of the midwives thought anything was wrong though during the first 6 weeks after she was born. Thought she was gaining weight, slow and steady. I breastfed her, like my eldest daughter. My eldest daughter followed the same pattern and took a month to regain her birth weight too. That's why it came as a shock when she was diagnosed. Looking back though, she did do a lot of dirty nappies, but everyone thought that was normal. As she got a little bit older, her stools had fat in it before she started taking enzymes.

For what it's worth, my son is 20 years old with virtually no symtoms (yet?). See our story on my blog page.

Face2....My son was recently diagnosed at 4 yrs old.......Nappies are diapers!! The diaper needs to be emptied in the toilet to see if the contents float! My son's stools floated......and they were pale yellow.........that was a sign that he had the typical absorption problems that CF children have.
