Something has change in this weeks, i don´t know why and how. She started with a cough, we did a sputum culture and she has haemophilus parainfluenzae. The doctor start treating it before the result with something similar lo "keflex", so is more than enough the antibiotic.
Now she is better but her cough, her sputum is different. For her is harder to take it out, sometimes she kind of drawn with this heavy sputum when she cough.
She cough maybe 5 times a day (not to much but before was cero), but now you can see that she is different from other kids... Dont know what to do. She is in her 10 day of antibiotic, the doctor told me to go with her in her 14 day to see if we continue with it or not.
my target is to return to not cough at all, but How???
She is 3, so the doc is not sure to give her pulmozyme or hipertonic saline because there are not much studies for kids.
the good thing is that she dont care, she is such a happy girl, she laugh so much that we do her cpt and we dont take as much of sputum as when she is laughing (or crying).
is normal? does this mean that i cant get back?
thank you

If I understand correctly she is on day 10 of 14 days of antibiotics. It is not unusual even for a healthy child to still be coughing 5 times a day. In the US, cfers are often given 21 days of abx if coughing persists at day 10. Perhaps you should ask your doctor to extend the prescription if in fact the keflex is an abx that works against the bacteria that has been found in her recent sputum culture. Also if you are not already do the ventalin and cpt every 4 hrs. If she coughs in the night get her up and do a treatment there. Beat it out of her as ratatosk would say!

Debbie,

Bek started out on Pulmicort, but I didn't notice any change, so her doc switched her to Pulmozyme just a couple of months after she turned 2. We just recently were introduced to Hyper-Sol; I would say less than a year ago.

Chilemom,

Are they actually getting a sputum sample, or are they doing a throat swab? Sometimes just a throat swab doesn't detect everything that is doing on. Keep using the antibiotic, and if she is still coughing, go ahead and ask the doc to extend it for another week. What about Tobi? Is she using that as well? For a long time, Bek did Tobi every month instead of the normal 28 days on & 28 days off. Keep us posted.
