My daughter has been on hypertonic saline and Pulmozyme since she was about about 1 year old. Try to get her on them. It really helps thin the mucus.

My 4 almost 5 year old has been on Pulmozyme since 2 years old even without any lung involvment at the time.
She has had a bad cough the past while and now the docs say possibly an asthma component. She is now on pulmozyme twice a day and albuterol 3 times a day. along with abx and increased treatments and Prednisone. Hopefully something helps! She has never had a cough til now either. She does culture Staph for the past 9 months though.
My 8 month olf has been on Hypertonic saline 7% mixed with Sodium Chloride .9% (I guess it make a 3%). She has been on that since about 2 months old. She has also been on Pulmozyme that whole time. Also albuterol.
I am sure she can get back to no cough. Don't stress too much. It will just take time.

Take care.

my son was started on pulmozyme and hypertonic @ 3 months old. They started the hypertonic at 3% but eventually moved to 7%. Keeps his mucus much thinner...easier to cough out.

You may also need to try an inhaled steriod... like flovent or advair or maybe pulmicort....

All 3 of my kids are on these things. We have added one med at a time and adjusted as needed. They all seem to help more than anything else. They aren't many studies of the pulmozyme or hypertonic in younger kids or babies.... but it is being prescribed more and more to the younger ones I think to give them a head start of the benefits. If your child has a bad side effect you can always stop.

Good luck!
