DS culutured H. Flu. when he was a baby until he was about 2 1/2 years old. He was on prophalactic antibiotics (keflex) since he was a few weeks old. He didn't get rid of the H.Flu until he was put on azithromycin which was prescribed not for abx properties but for inflammation and I recall the doctor mentioning that as a plus it should rid him of the H. Flu.

IMO, I'd ask for another culture to see what she's growing and what it's sensitive to. And if you're not already doing it, increase CPT and nebs to 4 times a day to help her clear out that extra mucus.

DS was also put on pulmozyme at age 2 1/2. He's not on HTS.

My granddaughter is on Hypertonic since she is 3 months old. She is doing really good with it. Even if she gets a cold, they up her treatments with it, and it helps her colds. She is now 20 months old.

I'm so sorry your daughter is still sick!

I'd first be sure you are doing her cpt more often with whatever inhaled nebs she does with that. This is very important in helping her get up the junk she has down there. We double Emily's treatments when she is sick. Saline sinus rinses, even saline sprays (drops alone might be of limited value) also can help flush out nasal congestion & reduce postnasal drip that contribute to a cough. Emily does the Neilmed rinses up to 4x/day when sick to help prevent sinus infections etc.

I also agree with those that posted that 10-14days of the abx may not be enough to kick the infection. For typical kids it is likely that this would be fine, but our kids often need quite a bit longer- so keep in close touch with her center and express your concerns about her symptoms. I'd try to get the rx continued if she is still heavily congested (even if not coughing often, congestion that is not typical for her is still of concern, esp if combined with any other symptoms not typical for her, like reduced energy, etc.)

Emily is not on hts but as posted by several others... hypertonic saline is used with great success in many little ones! Emily was recently started on Pulmazyme and I can't believe how much more she coughs during her vest now- she's turning it off every 2-3min with coughing fits. Her brother was even sick with a nasty bug last month and she did not catch it (a first in I don't know how long.) Maybe coincidence, but I think she's staying more cleaned out down in those lungs, so I am currently a Pulmazyme fan. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I hope she is feeling better soon and with continued time on the abx she gets over the cough. (and I know what you mean about it sounding 'different' even if not frequent. We moms can tell.)
