Spray Parks???? Not Waterpark

I won't take DD to water/spray parks. Consider that spray parks are just recycling the water that has already fallen to the ground...touched dirty feet...dirty ground...urine perhaps. Honestly, not a good idea in my opinion. I know that our local - and really upscale - spray park recycles the water as mentioned. "Sprays" in general are an excellent method of transferring "bugs" into the lungs. Consider aerosolized particles vs swimming pools...

Katie,

Thanks just got off the phone with the City Planning Department they do use "Recycled Water". Earlier I spoke to a lady at the parks department she claimed they used "fresh water". In a "Green Earth Friendly World" there's no way they waste water all day...how could I believed this. No spray park for us, not worth the risk;(

Are they filtering/rechlorinating it before re-using it? (I'm assuming the water is collected as it goes down through drains in the play surface.) If not, kids would be getting VERY sick and they'd fail any testing being done on the water, I'd think.

We don't have one so I haven't had to make a choice on whether or not I'd take the kids. If nothing was done to keep the water clean I wouldn't take ANY of my kids. However, they all swim in chlorinated pools and go to other clean, reputable places with water rides.

I take a different stance:

Go, have fun and deal with the consequences later.

Sorry, while i won't take obvious and glaring risks, i also refuse to keep my kids from living for fear of the risks.

There have been cases Cepacia in shampoo! Where do you stop?

If there is a water park, I would go in a heartbeat. As Harriet says, they have to be at least filtering the water or it wouldn't be safe for anyone. Beyond that you have to pick your battles.

The irony in it all....We avoided the spay park, and yet tonight the entire house has came down with a nasty cold. Wouldn't you know it!! Taking some of your advise into consideration. I don't want cf or myself to interfere with Johnny enjoying the best life.

Side note Johnny stared Hypertonic Saline 7% on Friday. My sons says it's "Hot", and we are hoping he will get use to it. Been giving him lots of breaks during it. His CF docs warned us that it can be tough.

Our dr recommended keeping a strong-flavored drink nearby for Emily to sip on while she did hypersal- whatever she liked that had a strong flavor that would help clear the taste from her mouth and soothe her throat. As it turns out, Emily LOVES the hypersal and licks the mask, tries to drink it, etc...! But wanted to share that tip. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I have to agree with Just1more on this one. These kids have to be allowed to live their lives. We are not all about taking unnecessary risks and I completely agree about hot tubs. But depriving them of everything is going to allow CF to define them.
