Sputum cultures

Even the tiniest little bit will be enough. What they do like to know is if what comes out comes from your sinuses rather than lungs. I have sinus issues so sometimes that happens. I don't always have much to bring up so I ask for a sample cup when I can feel a cough coming on even if we haven't reached that point in the visit. Usually visits last 2-3 hours so that helps take the pressure off too. As for bugs, seems that many of us adult diagnosed have fewer/less resistant bugs until much later in adulthood. I think the bugs don't go away and they show on cultures even when not an exacerbation but not sure.

Yes, DD cultures the same stuff every time and she almost never gets anything up. They do the swab on her. She hasn't had an exacerbation for four years.

Kaylee gets swabbed every visit(3mo), and is usually ok, though once she had psuedo, and she didn't even act sick, or cough more...

Thanks for all the replies. My CT scan is tomorrow, which will clarify things a bit, and then I don't go to the clinic for another couple of weeks to get the results and do the sputum culture and whatever else they do.

My sinuses are a mess and I always have post-nasal drip, so I imagine it would be hard to differentiate. I'm currently on gentamycin nasal spray, which has helped a lot to keep things clear since my last round of antibiotics. Don't know if that makes a difference. (It's just the injectable antibiotic mixed into Ocean Spray; my doctor wanted a nebulizer but insurance wouldn't cover it.)
