SSDI Miracle

My son (age 49), diagnosed with CF age 1 year, finally gave up trying to work recently and submitted his application for SSDI, via the Webb, on 10/15/08. Last week he went by his SS office, was able to see an employee and provided a letter from his CF doctor and medical reports that doctor included with letter. Yesterday, a message was left on his answering machine by this gentleman that he has been approved for SSDI and he could expect to receive his first check 5 months from the date he applied. Thie has got to be a record! Approval within 42 days!!! Prayers can be answered! Bill

Glad to see the system does work...though it does seem like 5 months is still to long to have to wait for your first benefit check, heck by then a person could be homeless and dead from starvation

My year long wait to get my check wasn't the real issue, it is going without insurance. I still have until Sept.2009 before I get my medical insurance part. Having worked up until I applied I have always had insurance, so this has not been any fun at all. Does anyone know any way around this stupid rule? It doesn't make sense for them to hold medical coverage from people who are sick enough to get it so easily.
