Starting Solids

Brandon started cereal in every bottle art one month old and he started solids at 3 months old, which was advised and encouraged by our cf clinic. You are the momma and if you think he needs more then start off small and see how he responds, there are a lot of great sites to check out on starting solids and making your own food as well.

Hey there. Definitely talk to your nutritionist first. Philip is 6 months and I breastfeed too. We started with rice cereal last month which he flat out refused (he has a taste for applesauce :) We then moved to jarred rice cereal with applesauce and we add 1 SCOOP of formula to 2 tbs cereal. He is on the verge oof being overweight (well, maybe he is), but they want him to be for his lung health. Two weeks ago, we started real food. We started with sweet potatoes, and I make all of his food so I know what is in it. I also do not use water when I make his food. I add breastmilk. It gives calories and it makes his food sweeter. The nutritionist told us by 8 months, he should eat 4Tbs cereal 2x/day, 4Tbs veggies 2x/day, and 4Tbs fruit 2x/day plus about 30 oz breastmilk. That's a lot of food! Anyway, whatever you do, keep track of everything that goes in Sam's mouth so they can reevaluate if he isn't gaining appropriately. Please PM me if you want to know more!

One of DS' favorites was baby oatmeal with pears. He hated rice cereal but loved this stuff. To me it smelled like apple crisp. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi. At 6 months Maggie started with jarred foods and by 8 months had avocado (mixed with jarred sweet potatoes) as well as other baby foods. Earth's Best Organic has a large variety of foods with better fat content than gerber or the others... including Tender Beef and Spinach which has 7 grams of fat.... its Maggie's favorite.
