I used to culture this in my teens and early twenties, it was difficult to treat because it was resistant to so many antibiotics, BUT it's not impossible. I haven't cultured it for several years now, so over time with the right meds it's possible to get it under control.

I am in the hospital right now with this bug! They put me on bactrim. I have cultured this bug off and on for years! I tend to grow out the weirdest things:S It isn't impossible to treat. I actually haven't grown it out in 4 years! The right combination of meds should do the trick.

Gosh can't the guy catch a break! I don't have any info for you but just wanted to say I'm thinking of you all.

Two things though...
With his fast progression have they brought up transplant? With the cepacia he may have to travel further which may require more planning. So maybe starting earlier with the eval process is in order. I have no idea what his FEV1 is but if its 40s or below I would think he could get started.

And major dental work is frowned upon after transplant. Please don't take this in the wrong way, I only bring up these things because I want him the tranplant opportunity if he wants it. He should get any dental work needed to fix his bite as soon as he is stable. If it's only cosmetic then I'm not sure it is necessary. This would be a good question for the tranplant team.
