Stomach distention

Hi Kristen,

Have you talked to your md about this? Do you see a liver specialist?

My son is 14 and he has liver disease and portal hypertension as well. Last January his stomach was very distended all of a sudden. His liver specialist told him he had to limit his sodium intake to 2000 per day and limit his fluids to 1 1/2 liters per day. That doesn't seem like he'd be taking in a lot of fluid but I double checked my notes and that is why he said. He also prescribed a mild diuretic spironolactone . He started at 50 mg per day and eventually it was tapered to 25 and then he stopped it as the water retention wasn't a problem anymore for whatever reason. He also takes prevacid 30 mg 2x per day.

I would keep a diary of your diet and medication you take and see if you notice more distention on certain days, with certain foods, etc. Also you should definitely talk to your doctor about it especially if it bothers you and makes you lose confidence. Your doctor may have some ideas about how to help you with this.

Wish you the best.

Tara

Hey, krisgabes

I know what you're talking about.
Stupidly excited happy stranger "Oh, are you pregnant?"
"No, *insert explicative here*"

And it's not like I'm wearing spandex cat-suits or something. Ugh, so upsetting.

I have a corset that I can wear under dresses, it's takes off 1 1/2 inches. It's reasonably comfortable and use it alot.

I bought SPANX so I could wear it under tees and jeans. It takes off 1 inch but is SO uncomfortable and makes it hard to breathe - so I never wear it.

So yes, I completely understand. It SUCKS! I HATE it!
But "eff" it - wear whatever YOU want. Wearing bright colored clothes and sparkly nail polish tend to put me in a better mood, so that's what I do

I had troubles with this until recently. I started strong antacid and drinking water through out the day (from the time I get up until I go to bed). Don't get me wrong... I still have those days when my stomach hurts and now matter what I do, I am bloated. Thank goodness for yoga pants, long tunic tops and elastic waist bands!!!

Miralax is my best friend. Thanks to it I am finally flushing out what was causing some of my bloating issues.

Funny, Yep, I can relate to the stomach distention thing. Yay! So much fun....and when it's that time of the month, even better-haha. Miralax is my lifesaver too! If I don't use it, I pay for it with disdended and irritated stomach, feeling full, no appetite, etc. I have noticed that since I am cutting back on sugar and drinking more water, it does help. I am an avid label reader. One would be shocked at how much sugar is in stuff, and in so many things. Unfortunately, juice is full of sugar! The juices that are "light" with less sugar, have splenda and or some other fake sugar and that can cause bloating too! Diet drinks as well. I got that info from my docs at UC Davis. Unfortunately water is the best thing. Yoga helps with tightening the stomach muscles without doing sit ups. Also if you can walk up inclines of any kind, it tightens the abs! Now if there was a guaranteed way to get motivated to do it consistently-heehee. As for the lame comments from people, try to ignore them, I know it's hard, but some people are just plain ignorant!! Telling them to piss off works too!-haha Good luck and feel better!~CJ 42 w/CF

I've been trying to limit how much food I'm taking in at once. Trying to eat lighter meals, etc. I'm on Lasix right now for fluid retention so hopefully it'll help some of my stomach distention. Until then I'll just continue to ask people's opinions on names for my fake fetus lol
