What do you do for stress? I am looking for some good ideas. Both of my kids have cf and I have lots of health problems myself. My 6mo has liver disease, reflux, deveplomental problems and just failed his vision and hearing test. With all the thing I have to do medical for my kids and myself I am having a hard time getting much else done. I feel completely stressed and we have no family to help use do anything. So I get no relief! Is there are way that anyone knows of to relax and manage time better? Just looking for some ideas not complaining hope it doesn't sound that way.

When I am by myself I use activity,..I play basketball, walk/run my dog or go to the gym to lift. When my wife is home she normally acts as my sounding board and she always tells me how right I am, even when I am wrong! I am sure this did not help you at all, good luck with your situation.

You have been given a lot to deal with. I know when you don't haveany time for the things you actually need to do, then destressing is especially hard. It's like life keeps throwing things at you, and you're struggling just to catch them all, but you're arms are already full. You know you need to empty your hands or you won't be catching anything anymore, but every time you try there comes something else that you have to catch. That's what I feel like sometimes, anyway. So, it's the little things in my day I try to appreciate. Like the other morning, I was on my way to work at 5:00 in the morning, and since my truck doesn't actually have a heater, It was really cold. So, on my way to work i was pretending to be a dragon, and blowing out frost like it was fire. ha, ha, that's.... really stupid, i know, but sometimes that's the only thing that'll get me going to work in the morning, i look forward to pretending I'm a dragon on the way there. Or on another day i had to help someone take down a fence. I wasn't feeling too well, and besides that i'd gotten another dr bill that I'm gonna have to struggle to pay, so I wasn't exactly doing too well. Well, there were a lot of birds around chirping. not really singing. it would have been better if they were singing, but i tried to pick out each individual bird's voice as i worked. Hmmm, now that i think about it, I guess all i really do is distract myself for a while. It seems to help, anyway. There one other thing that i always do; when I'm doing dishes (either at home or at work) I like to play with the bubbles. If there's anyone else around, i throw bubbles at them, or if I'm alone i throw the bubbles at the wall. Or I might just throw them in the air and watch them float down. I also add my own sound effects. =-) Anyway, you probably have to be really weird to enjoy the things I do, so i don't know if this'll help you, or just make you wonder how i'm able to type with a straight-jacket on. =-) ha, ha, they haven't caught me yet, so I'm not in a straight-jacket. =-) Take care.

Sorry did not know I didn't login before I poisted this message.

Luke,
I should probaly talk to my better half more when things bother me so thanks for that. But for a " healthy" person I can't do much active wise. I have asthma, chronic broncitis, bronchiectasis, diabetes, year round allergies, sinus problems, gerd, ibs, ulcers and endometriosis. So I never have much energy. Thank you I try to keep things to myself and not bother their father because he is always working so hard to support us and maybe I should let him know that things get to me .

Mockingbird,
I am glad to see I am not the only die hard optamist in the world. I think if it wasn't for all the little things I would probaly go off the deep end sometimes. I am so so thankful that I even have my kids even when I am doung thier cpt. Because I was told for years I would never have children. That even though many people see them as flawed I thank they are absloutly perfect. Sometimes I cry when I see people hit or yell at their kids for silly little things that I may never see my boys do. My youngest may have CP to.

I carry all my stress in my neck and upper back. I get migraines something awful. So I know it's crazy but even a 5 minute excersise routine can help you destress. Yoga with deep breathing. or walking in place, anything you can tolerate. My lungs are terrible but I started 5 minutes of walking and now I'm up to an hour. But the way I feel when I'm excersising is so good. It will definatly helps me destress. I was one of them people that said yeah right. But now I'm a beleiver. Hope this helps.

I just have to say, Jarrod: I love the dragon thing! HEE! Have you ever tried blowing smoke rings with your neb meds? I enjoy showing that one off to people the first time they see me nebbing.

As for destressing, I'm not so good at that one either... but I can say no matter how many things you have in your schedule that you HAVE to do, it's important to try to schedule things in that you WANT to do as well on a regular basis. Sometimes just knowing there's that little bit of Me-Time set into the schedule to look forward to can really help you get through the day, or week, or whatever. I know it's not always possible, but sometimes we have to remember to prioritize our own enjoyment over doing another chore, because without that enjoyment we may not have the mental energy to deal with the chore anyway.

Also, I personally think it's SO important to LET THINGS OUT. I have a big problem with this because I hate bothering people with my problems and dumping my misery/frustration/whatever on them, and no matter how many times my friends tell me they want to hear it and that's what friends are for I still feel like a bother. Which is why forums like this are great, b/c I don't care about bothering you guys. And people here can understand on a different level than everyone else. Also, I find it really helps to write out my complaints and emotions and worries, another way of letting it out without feeling like I'm bothering people with my whining.

Don't know if any of this helps at all... If nothing else, you can always picture Jarrod driving to work as a dragon and giggle.

I used to do that all the time! The old nebulizers were perfect for that 'cause they had that long spingy end on 'em. I never could do it with just my mouth, though, i always needed the springy thing. Since the PARI nebs came out, I haven't been able too. (And, yes, I also pretend I'm a dragon sometimes when i do my nebs. I blow it at the dogs and they try to eat my breath... well, the ones who like TOBI try to eat my breath, the other ones run away.

Brandi, i also pretend to be a dinosaur when I'm eating, either that or a jaguar. He, he, i'm such a dork. Once i was eating my mashed potatoes with my tounge and i got yelled at. =-)

I recently saw something about a stress study on women with sick kids. They found that the women who did something to relax or vent were much happier and able to deal with things better. One person kick boxed. one did yoga, one got a massage once a month. The point is you have to take some time to yourself every now and then, its not selfish. You need to be at your best so you can give your kids the care they need.

Whenever I get stressed I have a nice long hot bath. I also go for walks and listen to my ipod. It can be really calming and it gives me a chance to just think. Of course the problem is finding the time for all of this!!

I pretend to be a monster, too! Or a bird. Sometime I walk around with my arms stretched out pretending to be a soaring bird, and people are like, "What are you doing?" =-) Also, when i'm hiking... when I used to hike =-) and I was going downhill, I'd pretend i was a river splashing on all the rocks and stuff... either that, or a hover-cycle... like the one's on Judge Dredd. =-) And I pretend to be a robot all the time! Ahhh! I'm such a dork. The worst part is I'm usually making sound effects, too. =-) I can't help it! They just come out. =-) Oh, well.

Sham, yeah, it's possible to breathe out of both. Just make sure all your passages are open and breathe. =-)

Jarrod,

Alas we have something in common; I also blew the smoke rings in my younger days...the hospital staff found it quite entertaining. I haven't given it a try in quite a few years; I will give it a shot when I light up the neb later.

What do you mean 'Alas'? Wait, alas is bad, right? As in, "Alas, poor Yorrick?" or "Alas, I could not save him" It should be, "Yay! I have something in common with jarod! That's grounds for getting thrown in the nuthouse, where all my expences will be taken care of by the american tax payers." Oh, and also you get to meet lots of people. And if you're lucky a big indian will smother you with a pillow and use a water fountain to crash through a window and escape.... well, the smothering part isn't too fun, it's usually a good idea to talk the indian out of that part, but it's very inspiring to see him tear up that water fountain. =-)
