Ashton is 2 and just now deciding at home that he wants to be picky with eating.. I never though about loading him full of snacks.. he likes to snack but when its time to sit down at the table for dinner forget it.. How do you dose enzymes if they are snacking a lot?? This would just be in the evening and on weekends because at school he does fine!! Imagine that.. He like popcorn, poptarts, ceral, cereal bars, ice cream, i have noticed he will eat spaghettios and things if they are in the little individual serving bowls!! Just thought i would drop my experiences... Talk to you later

I read someplace - maybe on this forum - that food battles are battles about control over your body, not about the food. Our kids with CF must surely get tired of us telling them what to do all the time for medicines and etc. I've not yet been able to do it myself, but I feel like sooner or later I need to back off and let my CFer eat on his own terms instead of being harrassed by my fears and insecurities about his health.

As for practical comments: we tend to let our child eat or snack at will, but lately it seems that he eats more over the course of a day if we "forget" to give him snacks...I get the impression that those little snacks prevent him from ever getting hungry enough to eat a decent meal and he always feels just a tad filled up.

I agree, it's a control thing. But with DS, it doesn't matter if he snacks or not. Sometimes he'll eat a huge snack and a huge meal. Other times, he won't eat a thing and we wonder what he survives on. 'Course friends and relatives have non-cfer kids and have gone thru the same thing -- will only eat toast, chicken nuggets...

With the snacks, I used to give him snacky things that didn't require enzymes -- juice, fruit, clear candy... Usually though I give him one or two enzymes depending upon the fat content. If he's a bigger eater than expected or gets into the cheese puffs or tortilla chips, I'll add another enzyme.

If he doesn't eat well at all through out the day, I'll usually try to encourage him to have a snack before bed or have a glass of milk (spiked with cream). 'Course lately all he wants is ice water and fruit snacks.

Grrrrrr, Liza! What is it with the ice water and fruit snacks? Emily asks for both several times a day!!!! They are the only food items she really asks for, now that I think of it. Well, maybe apples, too. Grrrrr.
