Swallowing Enzymes

I just had to share this.... Ella, my not-yet-three-year-old daughter decided two days ago that she wanted to swallow her enzyme pills instead of eating them in her applesauce. She just picked one up, popped it into her mouth, drank some milk and swallowed it right down! We were so amazed! She has always had a really easy gag reflex and sometimes has a hard time swallowing large bits of food, so I was thinking it was going to be years before we would cross that bridge. And then there she goes proving me wrong again. This is going to make life SO much easier. I just had to share with you guys who know what a huge deal this is.

Take Care,

LOL....only in the CF world would we want our kids to pop pills! I was thankful my daughter (no cf) was able to take her allergy meds in tablet form. I couldnt get any liquid in her without her vomiting. She was actually able to take tablets before the age that tablets were meant for. The simple things in life. I know many, many adults that gag at one tiny pill LOL! Good news in my view!

Josh always had a harder time with the little beads. It is amazing to see kids take a capsule that size. Kylie is right- I'm still surprised at the amount of capsules my guys take all at once.

That is so awesome!! My son also has a sensitve gag reflex and I am also thinking it will be a long time before he will swallow his enzymes (he is 2 1/2). Maybe he will prove me wrong as well!! Good for you and your daugher....it will make things so much easier!!!

That's great! My son who is almost two amazed us at 13 months when he swallowed his enzymes whole. But then he would spit out the other two when we tried. However we have since discovered a method in which he swallows all 4 pills at once!We use a thick straw- either fromMcDonalds or Starbucks. We put all 4 pills in at once (3 Creon 10 and 1 Creon 5) and he sucks them right down with a liquid (milk, water). It has made our lives 100 times easier! You might want to try this method- it works wonders!

That's awesome!

Our 9yr old started taking pills fine when younger but for about the last year has decided she can't take them without applesauce! Such a pain to have to go back to carrying applesauce everywhere we go! At clinic they taught her to swish the pills in her mouth and then swallow. I had noticed that when she does that sometimes to long.....I think maybe they are starting to dissolve and then gross....I could see why she didn't like that....But for some reason she has done it that way for so long she can't just swallow them without holding them in her mouth first..... OH MY! My hope is that she eventually forgets to do it that way and will try again!

We were told to never take enzymes with milk or dairy products. Is that correct?

It is advised not to take enzymes with dairy but we have done it with our son alot and have not noticed a difference. The enzymes don't work as well supposedly with dairy but again he sometimes swallows them with milk. We have also used the beads in whipped cream when that is the only way he would take them..

No one has ever told us not to take them with milk when swallowing them. We were only told that when opening the capsules up and mixing the actual beads with other foods it needed to be in something non-dailry, like applesauce. But if they're in the capsules sitting in the stomach waiting to get into the small intestine where they do their work, aren't they just sitting their with all the other food as well? And why would it really matter what was used to help swallow them? Just thinking out loud mostly.... there's always got to be a catch to everything, doesn't there?

Oh I can't wait for the day. Cale gags on applesauce about half of the time so we get stuck. It becomes a battle even though he always ends up taking them. Good for her!!!! (and you)
