I have to say hurray for you that you were strong enough to push back and get them to do the genetic testing. I have been "fighting" for a few months now to get my daughter tested and it can be very tiresome. There is definately a population of medical professionals that do not understand/ believe in atypical presentations of CF.

Good luck with your insurance company. Hopefully they will give you an answer soon. Keep us posted.

Sandy, if I hadn't found this forum, I probably would have just let it go, but after all I have read here, I KNEW I had to pressure them for further testing. Not to mention the doc had me upset enough that I was in a 'fighting mood'. When we left the clinic he actually handed CJ and myself stressballs in the shapes of lungs, his comment to CJ was something to the effect of 'Here, you can have this, its a stress reliever" His comment to me, was "here, you need this!"
As I said, at this point I just want him to get the testing done, if it does turn out positive, we will be going to another care center, to me, it would be worth the extra drive.

Can you find out what mutations CJ's uncle has? Did he father his children naturally? If so, he probably has milder mutations that may not be on standard screening panels. Since many insurance companies require that you start with one of these panels, if you know the uncles mutations, you can at least make sure those mutations are screened for, along with the standard panel. Then, if one of those mutations show up on CJ's testing, you can push for Ambry's full sequence or Quest's amplified testing.

Or, if the mutations are rare mutations, you may be able to just request an amplified test based on the fact that the uncle's mutations aren't found on a standard panel. Also, the pulmo may have been surprised by the fact that the uncle has four children since most CF males cannot father children without intervention. (Especially if the doctor primarily treats "classic" patients.)
