Swelling

I have been having some mild swelling for about 2 months now. At 30 weeks I had to take my rings off, and my socks leave marks on my legs. Not too bad. And, so far, I have no signs of pre-eclampsia (my blood pressure has been fine and I have no protein in my urine).

But, my feet are absolutely killing me! I called my OB's office today and asked if they had any advice to deal w/ this, and the nurse told me it's due to swelling and to cut back on salt. Hmmmmmm.... I told the nurse that I have CF and am supposed to eat extra salt, and she was just like "well, why don't you try cutting back on it." So, then I called CF clinic and asked about this and am waiting for a call back.

While I'm waiting, I figured I would post here and see if anyone else has experience with swelling/sore feet (and my knees hurt too) and if anyone had any advice. Was anyone else told to cut back on salt?

I'm not 100% positive but I believe I read on Ronnie Sharp's blog (run sickboy run) that he was told to cut back on table salt. I'm not sure if it was for the same reason, but hopefully he'll see your post and chime in.

Hmm. well some swelling is normal as the weight of the baby is hindering your lower circulatory syetem. My best advice is to take it really easy and spend some time with your legs elevated. Good luck!

Kristen,

My CF doctor told me once to cut back on my salt when he thought I had high blood pressure...so I know that there are instances when lowering salt is ok with CF. I would say that decreasing your salt intake may help the swelling a little, but what is really going to help it is elevating your legs. I had to keep my legs up every chance I had just to keep the swelling down, although I didn't swell too badly. You only have a few weeks left, so try to hang in there <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
