Our hemophiliac son goes swimming all the time, and we access and then deaccess his port twice a week at minimum. If you couldn't go swimming for 3 days after deaccessing a port, most hemophiliacs would never be able to swim, as Hemophilia A patients have to infuse every other day (Ds has Hemophilia B and infuses Tuesdays and Fridays).
I wouldn't let any of my kids swim in a very filthy river or lake. For instance, wouldn't let any of them near the Ohio River for all the tea in China (its the most poluted river in the world). But, otherwise, I think you need to use common sense and I definitely think its a good idea to let kids go swimming as much as they want. Its great exercise and as someone else mentioned, salt water from the ocean is GREAT for CFers.
