Swollen ankles

I suffer from allergies quite a bit. A couple of weeks ago i went out for a meal with friends and a few drinks. The next day i woke up to swollen eyes and a tingly face i took antihistamine and it went down. For the past two weeks i have now been suffering intermittently with swollen ankles. If they do go down they are very painful and my eyes still don't feel right as though i've been crying. I went to my GP today and got to see a medical student who really doesn't know anything about my history .  She said she thinks its all connected and an allergy and given me some more antihistamines to take. I'm not convinced its that at all with my ankles. Has anyone else had this ??

It's sounds like a logical connection, though I agree ankles swelling is odd--usually a blood pressure/water retention thing. It sounds like you had a reaction and are maybe now having hypersensitivity/aftershocks like a coworker of mine kinda did. She had a severe reaction to iodine for an MRI (anaphylaxis). For months afterward she got hives if she even smelled clam chowder in the office. Can you/Have you had comprehensive allergy testing since this--to figure out if you've got something new on your radar? Make sure you are antihistimine free before the testing.

(I've allergies and I've never had swollen ankles, but the soles of my feet and the palms of my hands often get itchy after my allergy shots. The drs office hadn't heard of that one.)

I also had swelling ankles this morning. I don't swell, I had an mri a week ago today. But I haven't had anything different in my routine other eating some home made jerky my mom got me, only thing I could think of is having an reaction to long term effects of my meds but I'm going more towards its the jerky. I know females will retain water more then men but being a guy that shouldn't effect me. Watch what you are eating changing seasons can aggravate allergies to things you would think about. If it still happens call the docs and get some diuretics.

Swollen ankles, puffiness in general, can also be a sign of kidney trouble. I'm diabetic and have swollen ankles at the end of every day. I have to wear those tension stockings to correct the swelling. You know how it is with us CFer's things can happen at the same time so we think there is a correlation. Like you may very well have had an allergic reaction from the night before but the swelling in the ankles sounds like something different. Mine is due to kidney disfunction. Just a suggetion to get it ruled out. Clots are also common with CF cause of the way we sit in bed with our legs crossed. I have had to become very conscious about this as I am apt to get clots . Which cause swelling in the ankles and leg. Hope this is helpful. If you don't feel 100% about the answers you are getting from your doctor keep the subject open with the doctor. Good Luck

I got Swollen LEGS and ankles and HIVES as a bad reaction to one dose of either Zithromax or Advair. I stopped taking both immediately. I do not take anything that contains anything that those 2 drugs have in them

I get swollen ankles (and swollen face, especially around the eyes) when exposed to things in the environment that I am allergic to. And I have a lot of allergies.

I take Gotu Kola which relieves both the pain and the swelling. I'm taking it regularly now. Someone on this board recommended as a preventative for hemoptysis. If you do some research on it, you'll see it's quite safe and also that it apparently reduces swelling, especially below the knees. Without it, it can get so painful I can barely walk.
