Take two

After finding out that our hospital sent my dd's blood work to the wrong lab, I wrote a letter outlining my disappointment with the mistake and have made a new "friend" who has helped me to ensure this mistake will not happen again.

So, since we were at the hospital for a study she is participating in, we went today to have her blood redrawn. I am literally praying they will arrive where they are supposed to go (to ambry).

We had such a terrible experience with the last blood draw (my dd is terrified of needles) that I took my dd to the unit I work on and had one of my nurse friends draw her blood. She was still nervous, but no kicking, screaming and shouting "I hate you" to anyone. I was so pround of her.

Our hospital is "taking care" of thier mistake in sending the last blood to the wrong lab and has assurred me they will make it right with our insurance company. Ahhh, the power of a well worded letter.

So once again, the blood is on its way, and we are waiting for results.

I know what its like to have "mistakes" made. Its very frustrating especially when it comes to our childrens health. Just keep doing what your doing and most of the time you can get things changed.

In our clinic, the CF nurse wasnt doing her job. She still isnt but what I have figured out is that I go over her head. Even with our last appointment, the paper work was suppose to be filled out for the my childrens free started kit of Pulmozyme and some how we forgot to do it. This is understandable because they did see 3 kids for their first visit and there was so much involved. So After I relized that the paper work wasnt completed I called. The CF nurse called me back later that day and told me she would get on it. 2 days later I called back. And sure enough, she hadnt done anything. So I went directly to the respitory thery. She is sending me the paper work. I will call again on tuesday if I dont receive it.

Our clinic is not the greatest on doing everything. But I am definately not affraid to go above her head and make things happen. Its stupid but my children are worth it.

Hang in there, be persistant in everything and good luck.

I'm glad they are taking responsibility here and hopefully the errors will stop.

Aren't you a nurse, Sandy? I really hope this isn't the hospital you work at -- they should be incredibly embarrassed!!!!!

One of the points that I made in my letter to them is that the delay of this test is causing a delay in proper treatment (of course only if my kids have CF).

Yes I am a nurse, and yes this is the same place. The customer service representative is outstanding, he really is trying to get things done. However there is an glitch in the system that still needs figured out, and the area it is occuring in is not taking responsibility. I think I get frustrated because I go to work do my job and things get done. I do not want to be consistantly doing other peoples job.

I also worry for families who don't under stand the barrell through process you describe Tina. There are many families that just accept what happens as what is. They are not negligent, but someone doesn't do their job and it has a real effect on patients lives.

Tina, I hope you get your papers soon.
