i know several CFer's who weren't able to get tx due to cancer...

i'm just saying, it's important to be informed of how common skin cancer is. and how to prevent it.

i, myself, had no idea until a year ago that cancer could oftentimes rule you out for tx if it's in a certain time frame.

at 23 years old i have already had several moles and "suspicious" spots cut off of me because they were dangerously high on the scale of how dermatologists monitor such moles/freckles/spots for skin cancer. I used to tan religiously 3-4 times a week for about 1.5 years in addition to many bad sun burns throughout my childhood.
Not going to lie though, i really enjoy tanning whether on the beach or in a tanning bed--i find it very relaxing and usually take a nap <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

that being said, i would rather be pale and cancer free.

and even if you just go a few times or whatever, it doesn't mean that you won't get skin cancer from it sometime now or in the future. of course it doesn't mean you will either....

if you do decide to do it i would wait a little bit (maybe like 1.5-2 weeks) before you start though just to make sure your skin isn't still sensitive from the IV antibiotics b/c that will make you burn terribly and that is no fun.

oh i forgot to say that i have a port and its not a problem to go tanning with it. the UV light might have an adverse affect on the scar--like making it darker or something (i really have no idea though, just a guess on my part).

I guess I'll go for little while; however, it sounds like it's just another thing that CF screws up for us...

Thank you for making me aware of the cancer/transplant issue because I never really gave it a thought.

I'm pretty depressed right now so I save you all from ranting further about how CF screws up everything. I'm just sick and tired of this disease and reading about one more thing it messes with just ticked me off that much further...Still, thank you for making me aware!
