i would hang out in the bathroom for sure. that way your noise of coughing isn't so loud to wake people up and you are comfortable doing what you have to do.

for me, i don't mind using issues and/or cups to get rid of sputum. i dont' mind coughing up in front of people either. i see where you are coming from but i've been doing this for 26 years so it's really not a source of shame or anxiety or whatever with me.

i traveled a great deal with my job before attending grad school and i lived with over 25 people during the course of my undergrad. i stayed over at friend's houses with my meds in elementary school and high school. so this is just what i need to do to keep healthy so i present it to people in the best way possible and they always turn out to be ok with it.

good luck to you

Here's an idea....call the hotel and explain your dilemma and see if they have any suggestions for you.

I was going to suggest that they may have a conference room that is rarely used that you could use, but my guess is that the conferences you are attending are there at the same hotel where you're staying???

It still may be worth a call to the front desk anyway, to see if they have any other suggestions for you???

I wanted to say thank you for all the suggestions. My roomie brought up the trip in an instant message and so I brought up the topic in a joking way. I didn't explain much just that I had a respiratory thing and needed to do breathing treatments in the morning and at night. The ones in the middle of the day are not so big of a deal b/c I can probably come back to do it without worry. Phew. Glad that's out of the way. That's the long trip. She was very nice about it. I mentioned it's a little noisy. She said she's not annoyed easily and a little noise has never bothered her. Good news.
