I would think that he would want the school to know so there is no chance of cross-contamination from another cfer. Just like parents establishing 504 plans to make sure there are not two cf students in the same classroom, I would think it's important for him to know if he has a cf patient. Both for his sake and his students'. I think it's awesome that he is teaching. Best of luck to him in his career!

When I worked full time I did not share it with my employer at all! When I went into the hospital possibly my boss found out but I did not share the reasons.

When I went part time I did not share unless I had a good relationship with my boss.

Either case I NEVER told HR. And if I did say anything it would have been on a personal level with my boss, co-worker etc. It would just depend on the relationship.

I never wanted to get fired, insurance taken away etc. I know they can not fire you for CF but they could come up with some reason when the real reason is CF. One job I had I went into the hospital and when I came back they took away a bunch of my responsibilities and I was shocked and pist! They played it off like they were helping me out in case I had to ever be out of the office again. I took it as a demotion and I quit on the spot!

Good Luck

Thanks everyone!! We were talking about what he should do and I told him I would ask on here and I knew I'd get great advice... maybe it will even convince him to come on here himself instead of sending me as a messenger!

I think the plan right now is for him to put it down on his physical form and just leave it at that - not really bring it up in discussion as an issue per say, but notify them. This way he doesn't lie by omission on his form, but hopefully they won't CF as an ssue that will affect his performance. Tonya, your point about cross contamination was a really great one- thanks!

Again thanks for the advice! It's so wonderful to be able to come here and hear about what other people have done. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

If he is concerned, he should talk to the school nurses. If he tells them, they are obviously required by HIPPA (or however you spell it) NOT to tell anyone. This way at least someone knows and then when something flares up with his CF, he can branch out and tell someone else, if need be. I am also a teacher (but still only subbing), so I really dont feel comfortable telling anyone yet. I dont want to be turned down if a job were to come up.
