The best nebulizer?

We go through nebulizers like you wouldn't believe.

We're doing Tobi right now and everyone says it should only take 25 minutes, but it always takes us between 40-45 minutes. I change the filters, we get new nebulizers. I soak our medicine cups in vinegar water to help with residue. It seems like nothing really works.

We have the Pari Proneb Ultra II and it's only 6 months old. Anyone with the same problem? And what is the FASTEST nebulizer! It's so hard to get my toddler to sit down for two seconds, let alone an hour or more. Thanks wonderful CF fams! -Elise

Amy (saveferris) is going to suggest the eflow, so you may as well check out her blog on that. In the meantime...

We struggled with DS when he was a baby and put on Tobi and discovered after using a relatives devilbiss pulmoaid, that our brand new pari proneb ultra was faulty. We use both a pari proneb ultra II and a devilbiss, depending upon where we are -- vesting is done with the Pari in the family room where we can watch tv, dvds or play video games. The devilbiss is in our room, so I can do an early morning CPT/neb session before DS wakes up in the morning.
Neither neb takes longer than 25 minutes with the tobi.

I understand your frustration. There have been MANY postings on the topic of compressors and how they just don't last very long. I believe several people have switched to a heavy duty mobilaire -- looks like the air compressor my husband uses to do finish work with the air nailer. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Another thought -- would she be able to do tobi with the mouth piece. DS was able to do so when he was froggy's age -- until the novelty of the nose plug wore off.

Just to clarify so we're all on the same page - a compressor is that thing you plug into the wall. A nebulizer is the cup that you put the meds into that you hook up to the compressor.

That being said, you should get a new compressor...even if it's 6 months old, something is wrong with it and it's probably under warranty.

I've had similar problems with the Prob Neb Ultra II - it just wasn't going at full power for some reason. Don't let anyone tell you no - you need a new compressor or else your child is probably not getting the medicine properly <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

We just got a Pari Proneb II and it is a vast improvement over the cheapo salterair neb. we got when Luke was first diagnosed. Our Pari works really fast(although we are not on Tobi), so I am inclined to think that it may be that you do need a new compressor, even though it is only 6 months old. And we still do the mask style neb. cups, so I am not sure if that makes a difference over the mouthpiece kind. I did find that the plain old mask seems to go much faster than this cute fish mask they gave us. I don't think Luke cares what it looks like, he just wants to be done!
