The Vest and Ears

My FIL, who has chronic sinus and ear issues (inner ear infections and perforated ear drum that's been patched)complains about his ears when he sits next to DS during vest time.
I notice that it makes my ears itch a bit once in awhile.
When we had our CF walk a few years ago, someone made little vests for the kids for their stuffed animals and one kids threw a fit. There was NO WAY she wanted one for her stuffed animal 'cuz it'd make his ears itch!

Thanks everyone. I will definately try out some of your suggestions and see how they work. She's not crying at all, just putting her fingers in them, so I guess they are itchy. If nothing helps, I will bring it up to the dr.

For the first couple years I had the vest, it made my ears itch. Every once in a while it will still do it. I never really found anything that solved the problem, but to rub them while doing it or pause it for a minute and then rub them helped. I noticed it even more on the faster settings.

Over time, she'll get used to it.

Best of luck.

Two things..
While they are young you could institute them wearing ear plugs while Vesting. The equipment is very loud and perhaps it would help dampen the vibration. THere's a lady in her 60s who writes for the CF Roundtable and I recall her saying she has reusable, custom earplugs she wears during treatments to protect her hearing.

Second, my ears have itched during treatments a little from a young age I discovered that sticking my neb hose in made a nice vibration that "itched" my inside ear. Of course, it is concerning that I'm hurting my ears but I get my hearing checked yearly and I have perfect hearing and the audiologist and ENT both have said this won't cause damage. Good thing because I am addicted! So not to say this to encourage your LO's to do this but just in case your LO does this it isn't likely causing harm. I have heard of a couple other adults who do this too! Now that I have the eflow and no air pressure in my neb hose I use my Vest hose when my ear gets a little itchy I just pop it off and shoot a little air in there. To each their own right?

Both my boys are on the vest and they are 2 and a half and 1. They both sometimes pull at their ears and wiggle their finger in them. I asked my oldest if his ear hurts and he just kept saying
" Tickle mommy tickle " and if you have ever out your head on their shoulder or something while their on the vest it does tickle my ears because of the vibration. So maybe that could be it???

My son does the same thing, hes 18 months old. I had him checked out at our last doctor visit because I thought he had an ear infection. He didn't. I've noticed also when his vest gets up to the 14hz he puts his head on the couch or tries to lay down...I guess its because it tickles his ears the most.

My ears bother me sometimes when I use my vest. I have found blowing my nose or irrigating my sinuses to help at times before starting my session. When I have fluid in my ear, I can feel it during vest treatments.
