those fun little games we play while in the hospital

while i've been in the hospital i have found myself passing the time and amusing myself by playing these little games. make a list of the ones that you have been known to play

the ones i've found to do are as follows:

-when the nurse tech comes in to take vitals flex your muscle while they're taking blood pressure, it'll send it though the roof
-again when the nurse is in taking vitals hold your breath before they take your O2 blood sat and see how low you can get it to go
-stock up on the syringe caps and get a big syringe and you can spend hours launching the caps off the syringe
-leave the door to your room open and when the rude people come walking by and look in the room, wave, it freaks them out
-sit in the doorway of your room and return the stares
-hide and go seek with the nurses is a fun game, you go off somewhere in the hospital right before meds and see how long it takes the nurses to find you
-make a list of all the breaks in hospital policy, i'm on the second page
-find any excuse to go take a walk
-move the furnature around in the room, it freaks out the nurses
-there are about a million things you can do with those table things for the beds
-stay up late, the hospital is so much more interesting in the middle of the night
-find out what brand tv is in the rooms and get a remote so you don't have to press that stupid button a million times

We have some good ones too. Our favorites...

Save all the medical equipment and tape it all together to make stuff. We hang it from the IV poles and connect them all over the room. We've also made superheros out of all the junk parts.

Tape messages to the window in reverse so that people outside can read them.

Tape all the syringe caps to the wall and keep a tally.

My boys like to have IV pole races when they are in together.

I'll ask the kids for other ones.

Lol, robert. Look out- they may tie you to your bed in your sleep .

Last time I was in, my dh put a sign up on my door that said "$20 to the first person to bring discharge papers" . The staff (doctors, nurses, RTs) came in with an expression on their faces like they're not quite sure what is waiting for them inside, lol. (When they weren't sure that you were going to live the week before, the last thing they expect is a sense of humor, apparently-lol ).

Making laps, and laps, and laps around the nurses station (with the rattley IV pole, as getting an iv pole with 4 good wheels is about as easy as getting a grocery cart in the same condition) is fun too- go both directions, several times. You're supposed to get up and walk around, right?

Oh, don't wait for them to take you back to your room after x-rays, etc. If they don't show up in a minute to take you back, just leave. Takes 'em a bit to figure out that you're missing, and a few more to figure out you just went back to your room...

In clinic, I have been known to launch myself across the room (and occasionally, out into the hallway-oops) on the doctor's wheeled stool, when I'm really, really stir crazy...

Try the Google Image Labeler, robert- you can lose lots of time doing that . I had a puzzle site too- I'll have to see if I can find it for you .

move the furnature around in the room, it freaks out the nurses

Do it in the middle of the night, when they come in to give night meds, they will hit it.

I do that too! lol. It's fun.

Hmm...hospital games...

See how many med students you can get wrapped around ur finger and see just what you can get them to do.

If the nurses or med students leave extra supplies behind (gauze, tape, disposible stethoscope, scissors, etc.) take and put into your bag. Keep track to see what "goodies" you have to add to your pharmacy at home.

Make interesting recipes from the food that you pick from your predesigned menus. (Mac & Cheese mixed with white Rice is really good.) and try to get the nurses to try it.

Decorate ur room with pictures and posters so it has more of a "homey" feel to it.

I dont really have that many ideas, I always pack a boat load of stuff to do. Gameboy, card games, computer, CDs, movies....I take a bag just for entertainment. Plus I always have someone staying with me.

What do u do when ur in isolation? There is no free walks around to the nurses station...well not without looking like a mummy.
